What is Diatomaceous Earth Used for in the Garden?

black-ant-on-leafWhat is Diatomaceous Earth Used for in the Garden?

The uses for diatomaceous earth are many but in the garden diatomaceous earth can be used as an insecticide.

Diatomaceous earth works to get rid of insects such as:

  •     Aphids
  •     Thrips
  •     Ants
  •     Mites
  •     Earwigs
  •     Bedbugs
  •     Adult Flea Beetles
  •     Cockroaches
  •     Snails
  •     Slugs

To the insects, the diatomaceous earth is a lethal dust with microscopic sharp edges that cut through the insect’s protective covering, causing them to dry out, thus killing them when they are either dusted with the diatomaceous earth or applied in a wet spray form.

One of the benefits of diatomaceous earth for insect control is that the insects it helps to control have no way to build up a resistance to the diatomaceous earth, like with many of the chemical control insecticides

How to Apply Diatomaceous Earth In The Garden: Most places where you can purchase diatomaceous earth will have complete directions on the proper application of the product. As with any pesticide, be sure to read the label thoroughly and follow the directions thereon! The directions will include how to properly apply the diatomaceous earth (DE) both in the garden and indoors for the control of many insects as well as forming a barrier of sorts against them.

In the garden diatomaceous earth may be applied as a dust with a dust applicator approved for such use; again it is of the utmost importance to wear a dust mask during application of the diatomaceous earth in this manner and leave the mask on until you have left the dusting area. Keep pets and children clear of the dusting area until the dust has settled.

In my opinion, it is better to apply the product in a wettable form to avoid the airborne dust particles problem, even then wearing a dust mask is a garden smart action to take. When using as a dust application, you will want to cover both the top and underside of all foliage with the dust. If it rains right after the dust application, it will need to be reapplied. A great time to do the dust application is right after a light rain or in the very early morning when the dew is upon the foliage as it helps the dust to stick well to the foliage.

Please make sure you do not apply where bees will be. It will kill them.

For doing the spray application of diatomaceous earth, the mix ratio is usually one (1) cup of diatomaceous earth per ½ gallon or two (2) cups per gallon of water. Keep the mix tank agitated or stir it often to keep the diatomaceous earth powder well mixed with the water. This mix may also be applied as a paint of sorts to trees and some shrubs.

This is truly an amazing product of nature for use in our gardens and around our homes. Don’t forget that it is the “Food Grade” of diatomaceous earth that we want for our gardens and home use.

Important Notice:  I recommend using  Organic Freshwater Food Grade DE in the garden just in case an animal consumes the DE. . * Any food grade diatomaceous earth uses other than those approved by the EPA, FDA, or USDA are strictly reports of what hundreds of users as well as Holistic Veterinarians have recommended.

Smokeless Tobacco

Smokeless Tobacco: Health Effects

Smokeless tobacco is associated with many health problems.

Using smokeless tobacco:

  • Can lead to nicotine addiction
  • Causes cancer of the mouth, esophagus (the passage that connects the throat to the stomach), and pancreas (a gland that helps with digestion and maintaining proper blood sugar levels)
  • Is associated with diseases of the mouth
  • Can increase risks for early delivery and stillbirth when used during pregnancy
  • Can cause nicotine poisoning in children
  • May increase the risk for death from heart disease and stroke

Using smokeless products can cause serious health problems.

MAKE EXTRA CASH IN YOUR SPARE TIME!!!

Protect your health; don’t start. If you do use them, quit.

Addiction to Smokeless Tobacco

  • Smokeless tobacco contains nicotine, which is highly addictive.
  • Because young people who use smokeless tobacco can become addicted to nicotine, they may be more likely to also become cigarette smokers.

Smokeless Tobacco and Cancer

  • Many smokeless tobacco products contain cancer-causing chemicals.
  • The most harmful chemicals are tobacco-specific nitrosamines, which form during the growing, curing, fermenting, and aging of tobacco. The amount of these chemicals varies by product.
  • The higher the levels of these chemicals, the greater the risk for cancer.
  • Other chemicals found in tobacco can also cause cancer. These include:
  • A radioactive element (polonium-210) found in tobacco fertilizer
  • Chemicals formed when tobacco is cured with heat (polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons—also known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons)
  • Harmful metals (arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, lead, nickel, mercury)
  • Smokeless tobacco causes cancer of the mouth, esophagus, and pancreas.

Smokeless tobacco, like chew and dip, can cause cancer of the mouth, esophagus, and pancreas.

Smokeless Tobacco and Oral Disease

  • Smokeless tobacco can cause white or gray patches inside the mouth (leukoplakia) that can lead to cancer.
  • Smokeless tobacco can cause gum disease, tooth decay, and tooth loss.

Reproductive and Developmental Risks

  • Using smokeless tobacco during pregnancy can increase the risk for early delivery and stillbirth.
  • Nicotine in smokeless tobacco products that are used during pregnancy can affect how a baby’s brain develops before birth.

Other Risks

  • Using smokeless tobacco increases the risk for death from heart disease and stroke.
  • Smokeless tobacco can cause nicotine poisoning in children.
  • Additional research is needed to examine long-term effects of newer smokeless tobacco products, such as dissolvables and U.S. snus.

Home Remedy to Kill Ants

Home Remedy to Kill Ants

You can make natural ant repellent and get rid of sugar ants and black ants without toxic chemicals that can hurt your pets or kids. There are many different kinds of ants, but most of them can be exterminated using the same methods. Ant mounds often crop up underneath your house with little bugs pouring through the cracks when they realize the potential for shelter and food in your home is there.

Using chemicals and harsh pesticides probably isn’t at the top of your list for getting rid of the ant problem. An ant infestation in any part of your home can be taken care of naturally with this home remedy to kill ants.

How to Make Homemade Ant Killer

  • The first step of the ant control process is to get them off of your counters and away from your food.
  • It may take a couple of days before they are completely eradicated, so protecting your food is a good place to start.
  •  To keep them out of your house, you can also find the cracks and holes they enter through, and use plaster to seal them. Sealing off their entryways will eventually move them to a location other than your home. It will also help prevent new colonies from entering from outside.
  • Another way of naturally exterminating carpenter ants, black ants, and sugar ants is to feed them corn meal. They aren’t able to digest this fibrous product, so it soon expands and kills them.
  • Garlic juice is another good natural ant repellent. They don’t like the smell or acidity of it, and will stay away. This method will work well for areas such as corners and on the floors.
  • You may not want to use garlic juice on your counters to ward off the insects from your food, so consider using ground chili powder for this. Sprinkling a bit around your bread, fruit, and other counter food items will deter them.

How to Take Down An Ant Colony with this Simple Home Remedy to Kill Ants

  • Are you tired of trying to shoo hundreds of ants out of your kitchen every day? Maybe you are worried that your kids and pets are going to get bit by the invaders in the back yard?
  • Ants are a very common occurrence in the spring and summer months after they hatch. They typically invade houses, spare buildings, yards, gardens, and even sheds.
  • As if that wasn’t enough, many species of ants steal aphid larvae from beneath leaves and move them to their plant of choice for raising- often one of your favorite garden plants!
  • What can you do? Calling an exterminator can be expensive, and all of the harsh chemicals they use can affect your family and your pets.
  • Did you know that you can get rid of an entire ant colony, without using toxic chemicals, in less than a week? Or that there are several home remedies to get rid of ants that are 100% safe for animals and small children?
  • These natural remedies for ants can quickly eliminate them whether they are residing in your house, spread throughout your lawn, or scurrying throughout your home in search of food only to scurry back outdoors.
  • Aside from the fact that these home remedies for killing ants are safe, I prefer them because they are quick and effective.

A mixture of borax, sugar and flour kills both roaches and ants. The flour and sugar attract the insects, and the borax kills them. Cocoa powder is an effective substitute for the sugar.

Borax mixtures are also effective against silverfish. The boric acid content in borax damages the insects’ outer skeletons, causing them to dehydrate. More expensive commercial insecticides also use boric acid. Water lowers borax’s effectiveness, making it only suitable for dry locations.

While borax is less toxic than other insecticides, it is still mildly toxic. Users must ensure that children and pets do not have access to borax-based insect bait.

What are home remedies for fire ant bites?

  • Washing the area, applying a cold compress, and using medications, such as topical corticosteroids or antihistamines, are all home remedies for fire ant bites, according to HowStuffWorks. Individuals should also refrain from scratching the bites as scratching can make the bites worse. Getting the ants off of the skin is the first step in treating fire ant bites, claims HowStuffWorks. In this case, a person needs to brush the ants off, as they cling to the skin. Do this with a cloth or rag, not a hand, if possible, as the ants may begin biting the hand, too.
  • Fire Ants in Hawaii are mean. I have found using Diatomaceous Earth paste on the bite works awesome. Sting goes away in a few minutes.
  • It is important to clean the bite area with soap and water, explains HowStuffWorks. Cold compresses, oral antihistamines and topical medications used for bug bites may also be used to treat pain and itching. Individuals should avoid itching the pustules, if possible, as it can lead to infection.
  • Only about 1 percent of all people who are bitten by fire ants experience an allergic reaction, but it is important that those who are bitten know the signs, warns HowStuffWorks. Typical signs of fire ant allergy include chest pain, nausea, excessive sweating, swelling of the tongue or bite site, and slurred speech. Some people also experience difficulties breathing. A fire ant allergy may require emergency medical treatment.

NATURAL ENIMIES OF FIRE ANTS

  • Classical or self-sustaining biological control is the use of imported natural enemies to suppress pests.
  • Self-sustaining biological control can be an effective and environmentally safe method to permanently control pests over wide areas.

  • Diatomaceous Earth (DE), Pyrethrum and Piperonyl
Butoxide (from sassafras) that are proven to kill ants. These safe ingredient
  • Pyrethrum has been used for centuries as an insecticide,[1] and as a lice remedy in the Middle East (Persian powder, also known as “Persian pellitory”). It was sold worldwide under the brand Zacherlin by Austrian industrialist J. Zacherl.[2] It is one of the most commonly used allowed non-synthetic insecticides in certified organic agriculture.[3] The flowers should be dried and then crushed and mixed with water.
  • Pyrethroids are synthetic insecticides based on natural pyrethrum (pyrethrins); one common example is permethrin. A common formulation of pyrethrin is in preparations containing the synthetic chemical piperonyl butoxide: this has the effect of enhancing the toxicity to insects and speeding the effects when compared with pyrethrins used alone. These formulations are known as synergized pyrethrins.
  •  Rat and rabbit LD50 levels for pyrethrum are high (safe), with doses in some cases of about 1% of the animal’s body weight required to cause significant mortality similar to levels in synthetic pyrethroids.[4] Nevertheless, pyrethrum should be handled with the same caution as synthetic insecticides.[5]
  • People can be exposed to pyrethrum as a mixture of cinerin, jasmolin, and pyrethrin in the workplace by breathing it in, getting it in the eyes or on the skin, or swallowing it. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has set the legal limit (Permissible_exposure_limit) for pyrethrum exposure in the workplace as 5 mg/m3 over an 8-hour workday. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has set a Recommended_exposure_limit (REL) of 5 mg/m3 over an 8-hour workday. At levels of 5000 mg/m3, pyrethrum is immediately dangerous to life and health. People exposed to pyrethrum may experience symptoms including pruritus (itching), dermatitis, papules, erythema (red skin), rhinorrhea (runny nose), sneezing, and asthma.[6]

Companion planting

Because chrysanthemums contain pyrethrums, they are used as companion plants to repel pest insects from nearby crops and ornamental plants.[7] They are thought to repel aphids, bed bugs (Cimex lectularius), leafhoppers, spider mites, harlequin bugs, ticks, pickleworms, and imported cabbage worms, among others, in gardens and farms. For example, they are planted among broccoli plants for protection from several common insect pests.

Chemicals in Mac-n-Cheese ?

Chemicals in Mac-n-Cheese ?

I was just talking about how glad I was to see some organic pre-made and boxed Mac and Cheese hitting the shelves. But it still does not stop the ingredient labels from growing tremendously long or missing ingredients from the label entirely. I stopped eating Boxed Mac-n-Cheese (no names) about 10 years ago. The taste had changed dramatically, tasted like chalk and chemicals.

Reading labels started me on a road to eating healthy. The more I read, the more I couldn’t believe they were putting these chemicals in our boxed and processed food. Added sugar and yeast in every box. What is the purpose or reason behind this “bulking” up foods with junk. These products only add to slowing you down like a slug and making you fat.

It’s all about cooking with fresh wholesome ingredients. HOMEMADE… remember that word. It’s really not hard to live a healthy lifestyle. You can still eat out. You have to plan ahead and choose wisely. Go for a better food selection. Not FAST FOOD (name places) or that crap. Freshly Made.. Everything from pasta to grass fed beef. Broiled Meat and Fish, BBQ, fresh made Mexican. Eating from a Mexican taco truck is healthier for you than eating at a FAST FOOD (name places) Joint.

Now there are reports surfacing that Kid’s favorite Mac-n-Cheese is testing positive for phthalates. New testing confirms that chemicals in mac and cheese include a variety of phthalates, these chemicals disrupt the body’s normal hormonal function. Some are even linked to certain cancers.

Phthalates: are a group of chemicals used to make plastics more flexible and harder to break. They are often called plasticizers. Some phthalates are used as solvents (dissolving agents) for other materials. They are used in hundreds of products, such as vinyl flooring, adhesives, detergents, lubricating oils, automotive plastics, plastic clothes (raincoats), and personal-care products (soaps, shampoos, hair sprays, and nail polishes).

Phthalates are used widely in polyvinyl chloride plastics, which are used to make products such as plastic packaging film and sheets, garden hoses, inflatable toys, blood-storage containers, medical tubing, and some children’s toys.

Perhaps what’s most shocking about this recent chemicals-in-mac-and-cheese report, commissioned by the Coalition for Safer Food Processing & Packaging, is that even some organic mac and cheese products contain these endocrine disruptors. And it begs the question, why is the Food and Drug Administration still allowing food-contact use in the U.S. when many European countries banned phthalates in food and moved on to readily available, safer alternatives?

European Union further restricts four phthalates

Commonly used plasticizers would be prohibited at levels greater than 0.1% by weight in most products

The European Union is a step closer to prohibiting the use of four phthalates in consumer products. The Socio-Economic Analysis Committee of the European Chemicals Agency voted on June 20 in favor of restricting most uses of the chemicals under the EU’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation & Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) law.

The four phthalates are butylbenzyl phthalate (BBP), di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP). READ MORE

HAWAII Are You Ready? WARNING: N.Korea Threats

HAWAII Are We Ready?

WARNING: N.Korea Threats are being taken SERIOUS

Trump’s army chief warns US must be prepared for war

Hostile Kim Jung-Un Strikes again. Perhaps he needs to take some Valium and slow his roll. He is being so ignorant fluffing his feathers. Why do you Kim Jung-UN want to harm so many innocent people is the question to ask of this Boy. You are acting like a toddler.

I hope everyone is aware that we have been “warned”. It will only take 8, 15 or 20 minutes for the missile to get here from North Korea. There are 3 reports for estimated time arrival. The news media reports have the State of Hawaii under “Alert Status” and we have been warned to the affect an attack could happen and may be immanent.

US Weekly reports: July 23, 2017 11:27 am

Donald Trump’s most senior military officer has warned that a strike against North Korea is not “unimaginable”, as Hawaii prepares for a possible nuclear attack. Here is the latest news and live updates on tensions between the US and Kim Jong-Un.

USA TODAY by , reports: July 21, 2017

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency will roll out a plan Friday aimed at helping residents and visitors prepare for a potential North Korean missile attack that could come with barely eight minutes warning.

While stressing such an event is “currently assessed to be very low,” emergency planners said it is prudent to prepare for the worst.

“We do not want to cause any undue stress for the public, however, we have a responsibility to plan for all hazards.” HEMA administrator Vern Miyagi said in a statement reported by Hawaiian news media. “We cannot wait to begin our public information campaign to ensure that Hawaii residents will know what do if such an event occurs.”

The focus on North Korea follows recent tests by Pyongyang of intercontinental ballistic missiles that, theoretically, could deliver a nuclear warhead to Hawaii within 20 minutes, giving the island’s emergency teams only eight to 12 minutes to warn the public.

US prepared to use force on North Korea ‘if we must’: UN envoy

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley told a meeting of the U.N. Security Council that North Korea’s actions were “quickly closing off the possibility of a diplomatic solution” and the United States was prepared to defend itself and its allies.

Information: First Time Investors New To Purchasing Mineral Right’s

SURFACE RIGHTS VS. MINERAL RIGHTS: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Whether you have interest in selling your land or have been approached by a buyer, you should always know exactly what’s included in the transaction. When you own land, there are two levels of ownership that you may possess: surface rights and mineral rights. Do you know the difference?

What Are Surface Rights?

When you moved into your home, it was obvious that the physical structures — house, garage, barn, storage shed and yard were included. But, just how deep down into the soil does your actual ownership stretch? Sure, you can plant a garden or trees, but when it comes to drilling for oil and gas deep below your property, do you know who owns that space? It’s probably not you.

In some states where mineral deposits are plentiful, including Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas, a property owner’s rights are severed, or split into two distinct zones. This means you may own what’s on the surface of the land, but not what’s beneath the topsoil.

Surface rights specifically refer to the ownership of the surface of the land. This includes dwellings, buildings, the right to till the land for crops and even the ability to dig into the land to bury underground storage tanks, such as wells or septic systems.

Land that is owned under a surface rights contract may be sold, transferred or manipulated by the owner, within the guidelines of the governing city or county.

However, a person with surface rights to land cannot lease or sell their land to an oil or gas company for exploration and extraction purposes. This is because the owner doesn’t have legal ownership over the mineral deposits below their property.

What Are Mineral Rights?

Dig below the surface of a property and you’ll reach the zone where mineral rights take effect. In the United States, those with mineral rights ownership of land have the legal ability to explore, extract and sell naturally occurring deposits found beneath the land surface.

In addition to oil and gas, mineral rights typically allow landowners to also excavate for gold, silver, coal, copper, iron, uranium and scandium.

Like surface rights, mineral rights can be bought, leased and sold in accordance with the local and federal laws. Payments can be made outright or paid through a royalty system, based on what can be extracted from the land.

Both mineral and surface rights can also have co-ownership. If the surface rights owner wants to retain a partial stake in the mineral rights below their property, they have the option to only sell off a percentage of their mineral rights. Or, they can sell the mineral rights to multiple buyers, giving each a specific section of land.

Do Surface and Mineral Rights Overlap?

Now that we understand the two possible types of land ownership, it’s easy to wonder how they work together. Some property owners may own both surface and mineral rights on their property, which is known as a fee simple deed.

But, what if they don’t?

For example, if a person or company who owns the mineral rights to the land beneath your home wishes to drill for oil, can they place equipment in your yard — within the surface rights zone — that you legally own? Yes.

When selling mineral rights below the land in which you own the surface rights to, often a small area of the surface-level property is included in the transaction. This allows the mineral rights owner to set up a workspace for drilling rigs, outdoor storage areas, containment ponds, roads, fences and water treatment facilities that are necessary to safely access the mineral deposits below.

If you’re not sure what ownership you have of your land, it’s best to review your mortgage details or the property deed. Then, contact a lawyer who regularly works with landowners who buy and sell the rights to their property. Just be aware that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. The depth of land included in surface rights contracts and the specific minerals that are allowed to be extracted from a mineral rights parcel varies from state to state.

Understanding PTSD’s Effects on Brain, Body, and Emotions

Understanding PTSD’s Effects on Brain, Body, and Emotions

By Janet Seahorn, Ph.D  Published on Mar 14, 2016

PTSD disrupts the lives of average individuals as well as combat veterans who have served their country. The person experiencing the trauma often then impacts the lives of his/her family, friends, and workplaces. PTSD does not distinguish between race, age or gender and often goes un-diagnosed. Even with proper diagnosis, many individuals do not know where to turn to get help. Society needs to understand the aftermath of trauma especially combat trauma and how to prepare for warriors when they return home.

Janet Seahorn, Ph.D has been a teacher, administrator, and consultant for over thirty years. She currently teaches a variety of classes on neuroscience and literacy as an adjunct professor for Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. Jan has a Ph.D in Human Development and Organizational Systems. Her background includes an in-depth understanding of human development and neuroscience research as well as effective practices in organizational systems and change. She conducts workshops on the neuroscience of learning and memory, the effects of “at-risk” environments (i.e., poverty), brain development, and researched-based instructional practices. Jan has worked with many organizations in the business and educational communities in creating and sustaining healthy, dynamic environments. Dr. Seahorn has researched and studied the effects of trauma on the brain and how excessive or extreme trauma can impact changes in the brain’s neuro network and how that change impacts behaviors.

What do we really know about Alternative Medicine?

Sometimes it’s hard to get through the door

Stepping Out Of the Comfort Zone

Sometimes we need to open the windows on our boxes and look out. If we are brave enough we can open the door and step out of the box.

We have been programmed into staying within our boxes. It’s safe and comfortable and society says it’s “the RIGHT thing to do”. With scientists revealing more treatments involving alternative medicine, it’s time we took a look outside. Every day new technology and research is being accomplished you won’t hear about in main stream news.

The struggle has been hard with Alternative Medicine research and technology being suppressed for so many years. Throughout this time we have been told to think it’s a hoax, these doctors are quacks and they are just out to take your money. Yes, in some cases I will agree. But there are real Holistic/Alternative treatments that work and honest doctors providing the treatment.

How do you think the Chinese survived for so many years? Still to this day they rely on Chinese Medicine, herbs, roots and other natural ingredients to make medicines.

If you think about it, if we all just understood how pharmaceutical companies derived their medicines. It would be a financial downfall for the pharmaceutical companies. If only we would ALL look outside that door. We could really change health care as we westerners know it.

For an example is the Medical Marijuana medicine. Big Pharmaceutical companies have lobbied against any form of legalization. They are at their wits end because they cannot patent marijuana and they cannot come up with the absolute formula that works the same as the real thing.

Marijuana is a plant that grows natural on earth and goes back in time as a healing medicine. Pharmaceutical CBD and THC therapies are synthetic.

There are plants on earth that cure illnesses. This is how Big Pharma came up with all the BIG $$$ synthetic medicine, but one drawback is Synthetics come with all the side effects… Some medicines have over 50 pages of CAUTION SIDE EFFECTS.

Natural, there is nothing like the real thing to heal the human body.

I use to be very skeptical, until I actually experienced alternative medicine work. Not cancer but other illnesses. If I would have never opened that door and stepped outside, I would have stayed closed minded to alternative remedies and cures.

I just wanted you to know my eyes are wide open and looking at things differently these days, that’s all. Let’s Explore Our World and Everything It Has To Offer…

STOP SMOKING FAST FACTS

Fast Facts About Smoking

Diseases and Death

Smoking leads to disease and disability and harms nearly every organ of the body

  • More than 16 million Americans are living with a disease caused by smoking.
  • For every person who dies because of smoking, at least 30 people live with a serious smoking-related illness.
  • Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung diseases, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
  • Smoking also increases risk for tuberculosis, certain eye diseases, and problems of the immune system, including rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Smoking is a known cause of erectile dysfunction in males.

Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death.

  • Worldwide, tobacco use causes nearly 6 million deaths per year, and current trends show that tobacco use will cause more than 8 million deaths annually by 2030.
  • Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure. This is about one in five deaths annually, or 1,300 deaths every day.
  • On average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers.
  • If smoking continues at the current rate among U.S. youth, 5.6 million of today’s Americans younger than 18 years of age are expected to die prematurely from a smoking-related illness. This represents about one in every 13 Americans aged 17 years or younger who are alive today.

Costs and Expenditures

The tobacco industry spends billions of dollars each year on cigarette advertising and promotions.4

  • In 2014, more than $9 billion was spent on advertising and promotion of cigarettes—nearly $25 million every day, and about $1 million every hour.
  • Price discounts account for nearly 80% of all cigarette marketing. These are discounts paid to cigarette retailers or wholesalers in order to reduce the price of cigarettes to consumers.

Smoking costs the United States billions of dollars each year.

  • Total economic cost of smoking is more than $300 billion a year, including
  • Nearly $170 billion in direct medical care for adults
  • More than $156 billion in lost productivity due to premature death and exposure to secondhand smoke

State spending on tobacco prevention and control does not meet CDC-recommended levels.

  • States have billions of dollars from tobacco taxes and tobacco industry legal settlements to prevent and control tobacco use. However, states currently use a very small amount of these funds for tobacco control programs.
  • In fiscal year 2017, states will collect $26.6 billion from tobacco taxes and legal settlements but will only spend $491.6 million—less than 2%—on prevention and cessation programs.
  • Currently, only two states (Alaska and North Dakota) fund tobacco control programs at CDC’s “recommended” level. Only one other state (Oklahoma) provides even half the recommended funding. Two states (Connecticut and New Jersey) have allocated no state funds for tobacco use prevention.
  • Spending less than 13% (i.e., $3.3 billion) of the $26.6 billion would fund every state tobacco control program at CDC-recommended levels.

Cigarette Smoking in the US

Percentage of U.S. adults aged 18 years or older who were current cigarette smokers in 2015:8

  • 15.1% of all adults (36.5 million people): 16.7% of males, 13.6% of females
    • Nearly 22 of every 100 non-Hispanic American Indians/Alaska Natives (21.9%)
    • About 20 of every 100 non-Hispanic multiple race individuals (20.2%)
    • Nearly 17 of every 100 non-Hispanic Blacks (16.7%)
    • Nearly 17 of every 100 non-Hispanic Whites (16.6%)
    • About 10 of every 100 Hispanics (10.1%)
    • 7 of every 100 non-Hispanic Asians (7.0%)

Note: Current cigarette smokers are defined as persons who reported smoking at least 100 cigarettes during their lifetime and who, at the time they participated in a survey about this topic, reported smoking every day or some days.

Thousands of young people start smoking cigarettes every day.

  • Each day, more than 3,200 people younger than 18 years of age smoke their first cigarette.
  • Each day, an estimated 2,100 youth and young adults who have been occasional smokers become daily cigarette smokers.

Many adult cigarette smokers want to quit smoking.

  • In 2011:1
  • Nearly 7 in 10 (68.9%) adult cigarette smokers wanted to stop smoking.
  • More than 4 in 10 (42.7%) adult cigarette smokers had made a quit attempt in the past year.
  • Since 2012, the Tips From Former SmokersTM campaign has motivated an estimated 500,000 tobacco smokers to quit for good.

Note: “Made a quit attempt” refers to smokers who reported that they stopped smoking for more than 1 day in the past 12 months because they were trying to quit smoking.

What’s your Opinion?

Are they poisoning the world with the chem trails in the skies? Drying our fields and land to the point of flash fires across the country. What is happening to the ocean. The fish are dying at a rapid rate. Autism in children is at an all time high.

I have seen the chem trails. I have heard the military carriers at night. My trees are turning black and dying. I catch my water and my water catchment had a slimy growth and an oily film on the surface of the water, the day after I heard the planes flying over. You might say you hear planes at night. I don’t. Not even helicopters. I hear bugs and the ocean waves at night. This year we broke temperature records and continue too. My grass is dying, avocado trees from lack of water. Usually or should I say “Use Too” rain every day.. Not any more. And if it does its very little.

It’s hard to phantom that our Higher Archy could actually make this mistake and kill our world. A Planned attack against the ?

I recommend you that you drink the Vinegar Cocktail Everyday.

Vinegar, All the Wonderful Things It Can Do!

The greatest gift that will save you from dieting grows on trees and is then fermented into a beautiful bounty of goodness for your body.

Vinegar can do everything from relieving muscle pain from exercise, balancing pH levels, soothing sore throats, and normalizing weight and helping to maintain levels of cholesterol already in the normal range.

Externally, it is effective in supporting healthy skin and hair. Use it topically to give yourself a vinegar facial for toning or clearing up non-cystic acne and exfoliating dry dull skin. Gently rub your skin with a soft cotton ball dipped in vinegar and watch your skin glow!

Bragg USDA Gluten Free Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, With the Mother 16 ounces

It’s also great for animals.

Use it as a soothing after-bath rinse for cats and dogs to eliminate dry skin. Just as with people, it is also helpful in older animals. The high acidity and powerful enzymes in apple cider vinegar also supports a healthy scalp. Try a rinse of apple cider vinegar after you wash your hair. It gives hair incredible shine and bounce!

It’s so easy to incorporate vinegar into your daily diet.

Get healthy and loose that extra waistline you have been carry around.

When you wake up in the morning just make a delicious cocktail using 2 teaspoons of raw, organic apple cider vinegar, and if you need a sweetener, use organic honey, 100% maple syrup, or molasses to taste. If you are diabetic, use the sweet substitute stevia. I recommend you use only distilled water.

Bragg USDA Gluten Free Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, With the Mother 16 ounces

This “Bragg Healthy Cocktail” is designed to flush out wastes that are clogging the organs of elimination, the bowels, lungs, skin, and the kidneys. Take it at least twice a day, and you will start to see changes like increased energy, soft skin, and decreased muscle and joint aches from exercise.

Make sure you use raw, organic vinegar, never dead, distilled vinegar because the natural enzymes, minerals, and nutrients are destroyed in the distilling process. Any vinegar that is clear and has no “mother” (the strand-like substance in the bottom of the bottle) has no nutritional value. Natural raw vinegar should be pungent, with a rich, brownish color and a visible “mother.”

Drinking apple cider vinegar daily, and eating a largely fresh, organic, vegetarian diet, along with following a simple fitness program, will change your life so dramatically you will never go back to your old ways! Get fit, get healthy, and live a long and happy life!

You May Ask: What is Natural Apple Cider Vinegar?

Different from the refined and distilled vinegar usually found in supermarkets, Natural Apple Cider Vinegar is made from fresh, crushed, organically grown apples and allowed to mature in tanks, which boosts its natural fermentation qualities. When mature, it contains a web-like substance, called “mother” that becomes visible when the rich brownish liquid is held to the light.

Just a few more plus’s…

Apple Cider Vinegar is believed to help the Liver dissolve poisonous matter, like to much alcohol. It also balances the pH levels and tops up any deficiency in minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium and iron, which your alcohol soaked body is craving.

Ear Mite Treatments: Natural Remedies for Ear Mites

Ear Mite Treatment: Natural Remedies for Ear Mites

How to Treat Ear Mites In 10 Easy Steps

Ear mites pose an itchy aggravation for puppies and their people. This parasite also can travel outside of the pup’s body, making it very contagious to other pets in the home. If one pet has ear mites, all of the other dogs, cats, rabbits and ferret friends also need treatment. Your veterinarian can provide this service after diagnosing the mite, but that can get pricey. It’s also helpful for you to learn how to medicate your puppy.

Here’s how to cut the cost and treat puppy ear mites at home.

Ear Mite Medications

The ears are treated by flushing away the debris and mites using an insecticide similar to that used in flea treatments. The medication is often suspended in a bland medium, like mineral oil, which when squirted into the ear helps suffocate the bugs not killed outright by the insecticide.

The solution also floats debris out of the ear canal as the ear base is gently massaged. A number of commercial products are available for treating ear mites; ask your veterinarian for a recommendation.

Home Made Medications

Holistic veterinarians agree that commercial products work well. But puppies sick with ear mites may have other common health challenges that need treatment. It may be less stressful to shoo away the bugs with more natural treatments. Cleaning the ears with soothing solutions is the first step.

  • Antiseptic Tea Rinse. Green tea is a natural antiseptic. It can be used to flush out all the ear might debris—that crumbly brown/black stuff that clogs the puppy’s ear canal. Steep a tablespoon of green tea leaves in a cup of hot water for three or four minutes, and then strain it. Let it cool to room temperature before using once a day for a month.
  • Oil Treatment. Oil helps sooth sore ears, and also can float debris out. Oil also can suffocate the mites. Holistic vets say it doesn’t really matter what kind of oil you use, although some recommend almond or olive oil. Avoid tea tree oil, though, because it can be toxic for cats and smaller pets like young puppies. For the best benefit, crush a couple garlic cloves in a cup of the oil and let it marinate overnight. Garlic naturally kills bacteria that might develop secondary to the mite infection. Remember to remove the garlic before using the oil to treat your puppy’s ears though. You’ll need to treat the ears with the oil/garlic solution daily for at least a month.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar. Add 1 teaspoon to a 8 ounces, put in spray bottle and spray twice a day for 10 days.

How To Get Moving, Stay Fit, And Stay Motivated

How To Get Moving, Stay Fit, And Stay Motivated

When it comes to staying or getting into good shape, motivation may be hard to come by. As the seasons change so do our motivation to stay in shape. Work schedules, cold winter days, and all those electronic gadgets that keep us from drudging up the motivation to get in shape or maintain a daily routine of exercise are definite culprits. But we should be totally aware of the effects that inactivity has on the body.

Heart disease, stroke or diabetes is just some of the unhealthy affects of inactivity in the body. The good news is that studies show without discrepancy that these affects can be prevented or reversed; meaning that switching from a sedentary lifestyle to an active one can be extremely beneficial over time. Exercise alone, without change in diet, can greatly reduce the risks for these diseases even in small amounts. Doing what ever you can to increase your motivation to exercise is the first step to overcoming the lack of motivation to actually do it. Any of the arrays of methods to motivate you will be of great importance. Listening to music while running, simply finding out the exercises that you truly enjoy, setting particular times when exercise is the main focus of the day, all help you to stay motivated to stay in motion. Developing a habit or pattern for exercising is the best way to stay motivated; your body will become accustomed to working out heavy at a certain time each and every time. Your mind posses the ability to create positive ideas that leads to positive actions allowing you to live a strong and healthy life. Positive self talk can do wonders for motivation as well as just viewing the results of previous attempts (i.e. thinner waistline, six pack, etc). Self encouragement is the ultimate motivation. You’ll have no one to thank but yourself.

Fitness motivation is the essential part of changing your body, so creating a fitness motivation plan maybe the answer for you. For men, setting goals and providing adequate challenges work best. Changing scenery from indoors to outdoors may be the answer. If you just don’t feel like exercising or giving up on an established routine, constantly reminding yourself that the pay off is great will help. Psychological benefits like increased confidence, self-esteem, and relief from anxiety, stress and depression and better sexual performance can be all the motivation that’s needed. Remaining realistic about your goals will also aid in the fight to stay motivated to exercise. Setting a goal that is extremely difficult to obtain is depleting and counterproductive. Achieving a challenging appropriate goal boosts pride, satisfaction and will create more motivation. Making the exercise routine fun by adding variety in routines, exercises, or persons that you exercise with is a likely way to stick to any exercise routine.

Here’s A Funny Video to workout too..

If your are looking for health advantages and the secrets to sculpting a new and better you. Low impact band exercises have been designed and created to help you achieve your long term goals. Placing health and wellness at the top for you.

If you are not particularly knowledgeable when it comes to fitness issues, watching videos will help you out with your routine. This can take a lot of the mystery out of getting fit.

Setting attainable goals, adding things to increase enjoyment of the exercise routine, challenges, and the addition of a buddy to assist are all great ways to stay motivated, stay fit, and most importantly stay moving. You will benefit in the short term, and in the long run as well with physical and mental benefits in almost every way.

Asperger’s Syndrome – School programs

Look at what is being offered at different schools to find out which services your child needs and where you can best find them. Qualities to look for include:

  • Small work groups with individual attention.
  • A communication specialist with an interest in social skills training.
  • Opportunities for social interaction in a structured setting and in supervised activities.
  • A concern for teaching real-life skills and encouraging a child’s special interests and talents.
  • A willingness to individualize the curriculum.
  • A sensitive counselor who can focus on your child’s emotional well-being and serve as a liaison with the family.
  • An emphasis on respect for diversity and empathy for students.

Stay informed about what is happening in your child’s classroom. Frequent communication can be managed with a communication diary that goes back and forth between teacher and parent.

Asperger’s Syndrome – Treatment Overview

Treatment for Asperger’s syndrome strives to improve your child’s abilities to interact with other people and thus to function effectively in society and be self-sufficient. Each child with Asperger’s syndrome has differences in the number and severity of symptoms, so treatment should be designed to meet individual needs and available family resources. Specific treatments are based on symptoms.

Securing services:

Start by contacting your local school district to find out which services are available for your child. Become informed about your child’s educational rights. Federal law requires public schools to provide appropriate educational services for people ages 3 to 21 who have disabilities (including Asperger’s). Also, there may be state and local laws or policies to aid children with Asperger’s.

You will meet with school personnel to identify goals and establish an individualized education program (IEP). IEPs are designed to fit the child’s specific needs based on the evaluation of his or her level of disability.

I Think This Is The Best One, Counters Aging

Here is some interesting news I have discovered over that last couple of months.

Since I do reviews on products and such I actually have to use the products. Good or Bad, and I must say I am very impressed with Apple Cider Vinegar and Vinegar period. I was skeptical at first but have seen the Light as they say…

Plain Regular Cheap Apple Cider Vinegar I use for your body:

ACV as a rinse after your bath or shower.  1 teaspoon of vinegar in a glass 16 oz. (plastic preferred), just in case you drop it. Pre-Warning NOW!!! Do Not do your head until last. You do not want to open your eyes after pouring the vinegar over your head. It Burns so bad.. LOL… Trust Me I know from experience… I am far from perfect…

No, you will not smell like vinegar the next day. Maybe for 30 minutes after you get out of the shower. Actually it will reduce your body odor. I take my shower right before bed. I feel the vinegar helps me stay cooler at night and sleep better. You ladies going through menopause might want to try this… I am 56 yrs. And I half reduce my nights sweat in half if not more.  I also love the way my skin is so smooth and tight in the morning.

As we age so does our skin unfortunately. I am always looking for ways to improve my overall body these days. It’s like sometimes I wake up and just say “WOW” Really!!!  You’re doing this to me!!! TODAY!!!

My blonde hair started going dirty grey but what I noticed after I started using ACV my hair started to lighten and became softer and thicker.

So what I have found out about Apple Cider Vinegar is that you can drink the organic with the mother in it (I use Bragg’s for that). These are known facts from Bragg’s website. These are just a few things. I will be going in depth in my other articles.http://www.nowlifestyle.com/get_banner_script.php?id=278832&bid=4“>

This is great for heartburn

Thick toe nails due to toe nail fungus

If your nails are brittle, it will strengthen your nails

I think this is the best one, Counters Aging. Along with a good diet and my 7 minute workout I should be spinning the years right off…

There are so many minerals that our bodies need from vinegar. We just are no longer getting them from our food that has been grown in pesticide flooded land and stripped of the minerals the soil had to offer. Now most farms are just a growing base and no more. You are better off growing a garden. Build a green house and grow your own…

Hemorrhoids Problems: Take a cotton ball and gentle apply to the Hemorrhoids. It will sting, but the pain subsides and the Hemorrhoids shrink. You can even get rid of them completely by drinking the Bragg’s ACV w/ “Mother” and that helps tremendously heal you from the inside out. This comes highly recommended to treat this problem.

Stay Tuned for more on vinegar.

Asperger’s Syndrome – Exams and Tests

Asperger’s syndrome is a developmental condition in which people have difficulties understanding how to interact socially. A diagnosis is best made with input from parents, doctors, teachers, and other caregivers who know or who have observed the child. Asperger’s syndrome is diagnosed when specific criteria are met. These include:

  • Poor social interaction.
  • Unusual behavior, interests, and activities.
  • No delay in language development.
    • No delay in self-help skills and curiosity about the environment.

If You Are In Or Approaching Retirement And You’ve Got Less Than A Million ($1,000,000) In Your Pension Fund, You’ve Got A BIG Problem

Here’s a simple test.

One of many so if you want to look at different ones there are several to choose from.

Childhood Autism Spectrum Test

Your doctor will take a medical history by asking questions about your child’s development, including information about motor development, language, areas of special interest, and social interactions. He or she will also ask about the mother’s pregnancy and the family’s history of medical conditions.

Testing can help your doctor find out whether your child’s problem is related to Asperger’s syndrome. Your primary care provider may refer your child to a specialist for testing, including:

  • Psychological assessment. Intellectual function and learning style are evaluated. IQ (intelligence quotient) and motor skills tests are common. Personality assessment tests may also be done.
  • Communication assessment. Speech and formal language are evaluated. Children are tested to find out how well they understand and use language to communicate ideas. Your doctor will also test for understanding of nonverbal forms of communication and nonliteral language skills, such as understanding of humor or metaphor. He or she will listen to your child’s voice for volume, stress, and pitch.
  • Psychiatric examination. Your doctor may examine your child’s family and peer relationships, reactions to new situations, and the ability to understand the feelings of others and types of indirect communication such as teasing and sarcasm. Your doctor may want to observe your child at home and at school. He or she may also look for conditions such as anxiety and depression, which are often found in people with Asperger’s syndrome.

Asperger’s Syndrome – Treatment Strategies

Autism Spectrum Disorders

 Autism Spectrum Disorders

Asperger’s Syndrome – Treatment strategies

Treatment is geared toward improving communication, social skills, and behavior management. A treatment program may be adjusted often to be the most useful for your child.

Take advantage of your child’s strengths by encouraging him or her to explore interests at home and at school. Activity-oriented groups and focused counseling can also be helpful.

If You Are In Or Approaching Retirement And You’ve Got Less Than A Million ($1,000,000) In Your Pension Fund, You’ve Got A BIG Problem

Treatment strategies continued:

Many children with Asperger’s syndrome also have other coexisting conditions, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), social anxiety disorder, and depression. These conditions can place extra demands on parents who are already dealing with a child with extra needs. These conditions may require treatment with medicines and other therapies.

For more information, see:

Prevention:

Researchers have not yet found a way to prevent Asperger’s syndrome. Some advocacy groups claim the measlesmumpsrubella (MMR) vaccine causes Asperger’s and autism. But numerous studies have not found a link between these conditions and the vaccine.2 Doctors recommend that you have your children immunized, because not doing so puts them and others in your community at risk for serious diseases and even death. (Some say that statement is a cover up)

Asperger’s Syndrome – Home Treatment:

You can best serve your child by learning about Asperger’s syndrome and providing a supportive and loving home environment. Remember that your child, just like every other child, has his or her own strengths and weaknesses and needs as much support, patience, and understanding as you can give.

Educating yourself about the condition and about what to expect is an important part of helping your child develop independence and succeed outside of his or her home. Learn about Asperger’s syndrome by talking to your doctor or contacting Asperger’s organizations. A good source is OASIS @ MAAP: The Online Asperger Syndrome Information and Support Center at http://www.aspergersyndrome.org. General strategies for success:

  • Children with Asperger’s syndrome benefit from daily routines for meals, homework, and bedtime. They also like specific rules, and consistent expectations mean less stress and confusion for them.
  • Many people with Asperger’s syndrome do best with verbal (rather than nonverbal) teaching and assignments. A direct, concise, and straightforward manner is also helpful.
  • People with Asperger’s syndrome often have trouble understanding the “big picture” and tend to see part of a situation rather than the whole. That’s why they often benefit from a parts-to-whole teaching approach, starting with part of a concept and adding to it to demonstrate encompassing ideas.
  • Visual supports, including schedules and other written materials that serve as organizational aids, can be helpful.
  • Be aware that background noises, such as a clock ticking or the hum of fluorescent lighting, may be distracting to your child.
  • Children with autism spectrum disorders (which include Asperger’s syndrome) may be especially interested in video games, computers, or other screen-based media such as TV. If possible, keep televisions, video games, and computers out of your child’s bedroom. When children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) have these devices in their bedroom, they are more likely to sleep fewer hours. This is especially true when video games are in the bedroom. If your child doesn’t get enough sleep, his or her ASD symptoms may be worse.
  • Children with Asperger’s syndrome often mature more slowly. Don’t always expect them to “act their age.”
  • Try to identify stress triggers and avoid them if possible. Prepare your child in advance for difficult situations, and teach him or her ways to cope. For example, teach your child coping skills for dealing with change or new situations.

Strategies for developing social skills:

  • Your child may not understand the social norms and rules that come more naturally to other children. Provide clear explanations of why certain behaviors are expected, and teach rules for those behaviors.
  • Encourage your child to learn how to interact with people and what to do when spoken to, and explain why it is important. Give lots of praise, especially when he or she uses a social skill without prompting.
  • Practice activities, such as games or question-and-answer sessions, that call for taking turns or putting yourself in the other person’s place.
  • Help your child understand others’ feelings by role-playing and watching and discussing human behaviors seen in movies or on television. Provide a model for your child by telling him or her about your own feelings and reactions to those feelings.
  • Teach your child how to read and respond appropriately to social cues. Give him or her “stock” phrases to use in various social situations, such as when being introduced. You can also teach your child how to interact by role-playing.
  • Foster involvement with others, especially if your child tends to be a loner.
  • Teach your child about public and private places, so that he or she learns what is appropriate in both circumstances. For example, hugging may not be appropriate at school but is usually fine at home.

Strategies for school:

  • Use visual systems, such as calendars, checklists, and notes, to help define and organize schoolwork.
  • Orient your child to the school setting. Before the school year starts, take time to “walk through” your child’s daily schedule. You can also use pictures to make your child familiar with the new settings before school starts.
  • Be aware of and try to protect your child from bullying and teasing. Talk to your child’s teacher or school counselor about educating classmates about Asperger’s syndrome.
  • Ask your child’s teacher to seat your child next to classmates who are sensitive to your child’s special needs. These classmates might also serve as “buddies” during recess, at lunch, and at other times.
  • Encourage your child’s teacher to include your child in classroom activities that emphasize his or her best academic skills, such as reading, vocabulary, and art.
  • Set up homework routines for your child by doing homework at a specific time and place every day. This will help your child learn about time management.
  • Use rewards to motivate your child. Allow him or her to watch TV or play a favorite video game or give points toward a “special interest” gift when he or she performs well.
  • Some children with Asperger’s have poor handwriting. Typing schoolwork on a computer may be one way to make homework easier. Using computers can also help children improve fine motor skills and organize information. Occupational therapy may also be helpful.

Asperger’s Syndrome – Symptoms in Adulthood

Symptoms in adulthood:

  • Asperger’s syndrome is a lifelong condition, although it tends to stabilize over time, and improvements are often seen. Adults usually have a better understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses. They are able to learn social skills, including how to read others’ social cues. Many people with Asperger’s syndrome marry and have children.
  • Some traits that are typical of Asperger’s syndrome, such as attention to detail and focused interests, can increase chances of university and career success. Many people with Asperger’s seem to be fascinated with technology, and a common career choice is engineering. But scientific careers are by no means the only areas where people with Asperger’s excel. Indeed, many respected historical figures have had symptoms of Asperger’s, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, and Thomas Jefferson.

Asperger’s Syndrome -Symptoms During Adolescent and Teen Years

 Autism Spectrum Disorders

 Autism Spectrum Disorders

Symptoms during adolescent and teen years

  • Most symptoms persist through the teen years. And although teens with Asperger’s can begin to learn those social skills they lack, communication often remains difficult. They will probably continue to have difficulty “reading” others’ behavior.
  • Your teen with Asperger’s syndrome (like other teens) will want friends but may feel shy or intimidated when approaching other teens. He or she may feel “different” from others. Although most teens place emphasis on being and looking “cool,” teens with Asperger’s may find it frustrating and emotionally draining to try to fit in. They may be immature for their age and be naive and too trusting, which can lead to teasing and bullying.
  • All of these difficulties can cause teens with Asperger’s to become withdrawn and socially isolated and to have depression or anxiety.1
  • But some teens with Asperger’s syndrome are able to make and keep a few close friends through the school years. Some of the classic Asperger’s traits may also work to the benefit of your teen. Teens with Asperger’s are typically uninterested in following social norms, fads, or conventional thinking, allowing creative thinking and the pursuit of original interests and goals. Their preference for rules and honesty may lead them to excel in the classroom and as citizens.

Asperger’s Syndrome – Symptoms – Children

Asperger’s Syndrome – Symptoms

Although there are many possible symptoms of Asperger’s syndrome, the main symptom is significant trouble with social situations. Your child may have mild to severe symptoms or have a few or many of these symptoms. Because of the wide variety of symptoms, no two children with Asperger’s are alike.

Symptoms during childhood:

Parents often first notice the symptoms of Asperger’s syndrome when their child starts preschool and begins to interact with other children. Children with Asperger’s syndrome may:

  • Not pick up on social cues and may lack inborn social skills, such as being able to read others’ body language, start or maintain a conversation, and take turns talking.
  • Dislike any changes in routines.
  • Appear to lack empathy.
  • Be unable to recognize subtle differences in speech tone, pitch, and accent that alter the meaning of others’ speech. So your child may not understand a joke or may take a sarcastic comment literally. And his or her speech may be flat and hard to understand because it lacks tone, pitch, and accent.
  • Have a formal style of speaking that is advanced for his or her age. For example, the child may use the word “beckon” instead of “call” or the word “return” instead of “come back.”
  • Talk a lot, usually about a favorite subject. One-sided conversations are common. Internal thoughts are often verbalized.
  • Avoid eye contact or stare at others.
  • Have unusual facial expressions or postures.
  • Be preoccupied with only one or few interests, which he or she may be very knowledgeable about. Many children with Asperger’s syndrome are overly interested in parts of a whole or in unusual activities, such as designing houses, drawing highly detailed scenes, or studying astronomy. They may show an unusual interest in certain topics such as snakes, names of stars, or dinosaurs.
  • Have delayed motor development. Your child may be late in learning to use a fork or spoon, ride a bike, or catch a ball. He or she may have an awkward walk. Handwriting is often poor.
  • Have heightened sensitivity and become overstimulated by loud noises, lights, or strong tastes or textures. For more information about these symptoms, see sensory processing disorder.

Symptoms during childhood continued:

  • A child with one or two of these symptoms does not necessarily have Asperger’s syndrome. To be diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a child must have a combination of these symptoms and significant trouble with social situations.
  • Although the condition is in some ways similar to autism, a child with Asperger’s syndrome typically has normal language and intellectual development. Also, those with Asperger’s syndrome typically make more of an effort than those with autism to make friends and engage in activities with others.

Many children with Asperger’s syndrome also have coexisting conditions and may have symptoms of these conditions also. They include:

UO Smart Beam Laser Portable Mini Projector

UO Smart Beam Laser Portable Mini Projector

About the product
  • Until now, most projectors used either LED, LCD or DLP as the light source and they all possessed one bothersome problem: Focus needed to be adjusted manually. This was especially a big problem for portable projectors since they were meant to be carried around and the user had to adjust the focus every single time
  • Finally, a portable projector that doesn’t require focus adjustment came out with laser technology. Focus-free meant that projected image was never out of focus, no matter what surface it was displayed on. Laser technology also made it possible for the projector to produce vivid colors incomparable to those by other LED, LCD and DLP projectors
  • There are currently 3 portable laser projectors in the world: SK Telecom’s UO Smart Beam Laser, S company, and C company. S and C use technology very similar to that of an electron gun. One can see through a camera lens, electron beam wave flowing on the projected image like an analog TV. This laser beam can cause serious harm to human eye
  • The team behind the creation of UO Smart Beam Laser invented a highly-advanced laser technology that is completely safe to human eye. The Class 1 Laser used in the projector is registered with FDA. UO Smart Beam Laser’s ingenious focus free and harmless laser technology has earned itself the 2016 CES Innovative Award

If you ever wanted a Change in Lifestyle this is the team to get on board with.

There once was a thing called dreams that you had. As the years have flown by so have those dreams of financial freedom. Or where those dreams replaced by a 9 to 5 dead end job or a house full of kids. Or perhaps your just not happy with the way your job situation is not working in your favor lately. What ever it is, perhaps you need to start dreaming again. Start turning those dreams into reality.

I was stuck in the Grind. Everyday Monday through Friday driving 1.5 hours just to get to the office and another 1.5 hours back home. We don’t want to even think about Fridays. That’s a 2 hour ride home. My money went into gas, tires and brakes and no money left over for fun. I had even forgotten the word fun…

There are several ways to make an income from home. There is the hard way, the Harder way or there is an efficient easy way. Which road do you choose? For awhile I choose the Harder Poorer road to financial destruction.

Have you always dreamed of being your own Boss? Or maybe having your office at home? So many of us have.
One day I took that leap. I quit the 9 to 5 and joined the ranks of entrepreneurs.
I had always been in some kind of side business my whole life.
But I didn’t have a proven system and it was tedious and time consuming and usually little or no money was made.
Going to the office 16 hour days and 7 days a week. Plenty of times I wondered what exactly I had gotten myself into. I was working longer hours and harder than I ever did working for someone else.
I was always going to classes or training courses to learn more. Some of these courses cost $5000 for a 2 week course. I came out sometimes more confused than when I went in.

ultimate dot com lifestyle

Finally this year I found the right Business education courses that set me free financially. Now with a few hours a day I am making more than my share of the good side of business.
Today I want to share My Online Business Education with you.

Trust me, I was skeptical at first. I did not want to depart with any more of my Hard earned money through these so called online marketing training courses. At first I only spent $49. I took my first 5 courses and really saw the light at the end of the tunnel coming my way. I bought the Silver and Gold courses. Still advancing today. My goals are set in stone. I am taking my earnings and re-investing them right back into myself through My Online Business Education. My goal is to reinvest as much of my earnings right back into my new business so in the end when I am ready to retire my company will be worth something.
So I am very excited to show you what I have found to be a proven method to online marketing.

Prosciutto-Wrapped Pork Tenderloin with Flageolet Ragout

and Frizzled Brussels Sprout Leaves

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 red onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 2 sprigs thyme
  • 2 sprigs rosemary
  • 2 tablespoons fennel seeds
  • 2 tablespoons coriander seeds
  • 2 pork tenderloins (about 1 pound total)
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons wild fennel pollen
  • 8 slices prosciutto
  • 2 large pieces caul fat
  • Olive oil, for coating the pan
  • 1/4 cup sherry vinegar
  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • 2 teaspoons unsalted butter
  • Flageolet Ragout, recipe follows
  • Frizzled Brussels Sprout Leaves, recipe follows
  • Flageolet Ragout:
  • 3 cups flageolets beans
  • 2 cups chicken stock, plus more if necessary
  • Kosher salt
  • Olive oil, for cooking
  • 3 fennel sausage links, casings removed
  • 1/2 bulb fennel, julienned
  • 1/2 red onion, julienned
  • 2 cloves garlic, smashed and chopped
  • Pinch red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup white wine, such as Chardonnay
  • 1 tablespoon ramp seeds, chopped
  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Frizzled Brussels Sprout Leaves:
  • Olive oil, for coating the pan
  • 1 clove garlic, smashed and chopped
  • 12 Brussels sprouts, stemmed and leaves pulled apart
  • Kosher salt
  • 1 sprig anise hyssop

DIRECTIONS

  • To make the brine: Add the salt, sugar, onion, garlic, thyme, rosemary, fennel seeds, coriander seeds and 1 1/2 quarts of cold water to a large container and stir to combine. Submerge the pork in the brine and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Remove the pork from the brine and pat dry. Season with salt, pepper and the fennel pollen. Wrap in the prosciutto and caul fat.
  • Heat a large saute pan on medium-high heat and add enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan. When the oil is close to its smoking point, sear the pork on all sides until golden brown. Transfer the pork to a sheet pan and reserve the saute pan and drippings. Roast until medium well done and the internal temperature reaches 150 degrees F, about 5 minutes. Allow to rest.
  • Discard the excess fat in the saute pan used to sear the pork. Add the vinegar and reduce until nearly dry. Add 1 cup of the chicken stock and reduce to half. Add the remaining cup of chicken stock and reduce until about 1/3 cup remains. Remove from the heat and swirl in the butter. Season to taste.
  • Slice the pork on the bias and serve over the Flageolet Ragout and Frizzled Brussels Sprouts Leaves. Drizzle with some of the pan sauce.

Flageolet Ragout:

  • Combine the flageolets and chicken stock in a medium saucepan. Season with salt and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook until tender, about 30 minutes. Set aside.
  • Add a drizzle of oil and the sausage to a large pan over medium-high heat. Brown the meat, breaking it up as it cooks. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • To the same pan add the fennel, onion, garlic and red pepper flakes. Deglaze with the wine and cook until the fennel and onions begin to caramelize.
  • Return the cooked sausage to the pan and add the flageolets and ramp seeds.
  • Heat through, adding more chicken stock if necessary to keep everything moist.
  • Season to taste. Drizzle with extra-virgin olive oil to finish.

Frizzled Brussels Sprout Leaves:

  • Heat a large saute pan over medium heat and add enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan
  • Add the garlic and cook until aromatic and slightly golden
  • Add the Brussels sprouts, season with salt and saute until slightly charred but not too soft
  • Remove from the heat, add the anise hyssop and toss to combine.

STOP SMOKING… Health Benefits of Quitting

Health Benefits of Quitting

  • Tobacco smoke contains a deadly mix of more than 7,000 chemicals; hundreds are harmful, and about 70 can cause cancer.
  • Smoking increases the risk for serious health problems, many diseases, and death.
  • People who stop smoking greatly reduce their risk for disease and early death.
  • Although the health benefits are greater for people who stop at earlier ages, there are benefits at any age.
  • You are never too old to quit.

Stopping smoking is associated with the following health benefits:

  • Lowered risk for lung cancer and many other types of cancer.
  • Reduced risk for heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease (narrowing of the blood vessels outside your heart).
  • Reduced heart disease risk within 1 to 2 years of quitting.
  • Reduced respiratory symptoms, such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. While these symptoms may not disappear, they do not continue to progress at the same rate among people who quit compared with those who continue to smoke.
  • Reduced risk of developing some lung diseases (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, also known as COPD, one of the leading causes of death in the United States).
  • Reduced risk for infertility in women of childbearing age. Women who stop smoking during pregnancy also reduce their risk of having a low birth weight baby.

As The Temperatures Start To Rise Above 100

As The Temperatures Start To Rise Above 100.

As the heat index rises we must stay cool and safe from Over-Exposure from the sun and Heat stroke.

Here are some simple things to remember.

  • Never Leave any PERSON OR PET in a HOT CAR. Even with the windows down it is still too HOT for anything to survive when the cars temperature rises above 100 Degrees / 38 Celsius.
  • Make sure you carry at least 1 gallon jug of water with you in the car. Just in case you get stuck on the highway you will have something to hydrate with.
  • If you have pets “PLEASE provide them with ”SHADE” and “WATER”. I cannot express how important it is to care for your pets also.
  • Temperatures are higher in most states from what is “NORM”.

Those who are at highest risk: include people 65 and older, children younger than two, and people with chronic diseases or mental illness.  Closely monitor people who depend on you for their care. If you have elderly family members check in with them often to make sure they are properly hydrated and cool.

  • Are they drinking enough water?
  • Do they have access to air conditioning?
  • Do they need help keeping cool?

Following protective actions to prevent illness or death:

  • Do not rely on a fan as your primary cooling device during an extreme heat event.
  • Don’t use the stove or oven to cook—it will make you and your house hotter.
  • Even young and healthy people can get sick from the heat if they participate in strenuous physical activities during hot weather:
  • Drink more water than usual and don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink more. Muscle cramping may be an early sign of heat-related illness.
  • If you participate on a sports team that practices during hot weather protect yourself and look out for your teammates. Pace activity, Start activities slow and pick up the pace gradually.
  • Contact your local health department or locate an air-conditioned shelter in your area. Air-conditioning is the number one protective factor against heat-related illness and death. If a home is not air-conditioned, people can reduce their risk for heat-related illness by spending time in public facilities that are air-conditioned, and using air conditioning in vehicles.
  • Schedule outdoor activities carefully.  Limit outdoor activity, especially midday when the sun is hottest.
  • Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Wear and reapply sunscreen as indicated on the package.
  • Take cool showers or baths to cool down.
  • Check on a friend or neighbor and have someone do the same for you.
  • Check the local news for health and safety updates.

Seek medical care immediately if you or anyone else has symptoms of heat-related illness.

Quitting Smoking for a Good Reason

Smoking is estimated to cause one-third of all cancer deaths and one-fourth of the fatal heart attacks in the United States. The American Lung Association estimates 350,000 Americans die every year from diseases related to smoking. (My own estimate is closer to 500,000.) Forty percent of smokers die before they reach retirement age.

All the talk about premature death goes over the heads of teen-agers who start smoking and the young adults who won’t quit. The hazards of smoking just seem too far off to them.

That’s why I like to remind young smokers I know that the habit strikes men in the penis and women in the face. That’s right.

  • Smoking damages the blood vessels that supply the penis, so men who smoke have an increased risk of impotence.
  • Smoking damages the capillaries in women’s faces, which is why women smokers develop wrinkles years before nonsmokers. (Male smokers develop wrinkles prematurely, too, but somehow this particular anti-smoking argument seems to score more points with women than with men.)

Quit Smoking Using Natural Remedies and Green Pharmacy Herbs

Years ago, when I kicked the cigarette habit, I didn’t know much about herbal medicine. If I were quitting today, I’d use some herbs to help.

Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra). I don’t have much science here, just a gut belief to back licorice as an anti-smoking aid. I’ve also heard a lot of positive stories about people kicking the habit with the help of licorice.

How does this work? Licorice root happens to look just like an old cheroot cigarette. You can keep a stick of licorice root handy and suck on it in place of a cigarette. I believe it works by helping to satisfy the oral cravings people who are addicted to cigarettes seem to have. If I were still a smoker, I’d give this a try.

It’s interesting that most licorice coming to the United States goes into tobacco products — chewing tobacco and pipe tobacco — presumably for flavor.

You should be aware that while licorice and its extracts are safe for normal use in moderate amounts — the equivalent of up to about three cups of tea a day — long-term use (more than six weeks) or ingestion of excessive amounts can produce headache, lethargy, sodium and water retention, excessive loss of potassium and high blood pressure.

Red clover (Trifolium pratense). A few years back I got a call from an entrepreneur looking for a source of red clover. He wanted literally tons to use as a major ingredient in a tobacco-free chewing tobacco product he planned to market, all tinned up just like the real thing.

Remember to check further to see if you are compatible with the products mentioned.

Caring For The Senior Family Member

You would think that in 2017 we would have figured out a way to ensure our senior citizens safe long-term care.

Many of us find that as our parents age, they’re more likely to need assistance to carry out everyday activities. If that is your role in your parents life, you will have to be diligent and make sure their needs are being met.

I know the first thought is to move them in with you. But you must really think carefully about this choice.

How do we keep them safe and living in their own homes. Or when and how do you trust a facility to give care to your family member?

  • Just remember low cost care homes usually have several patients and very few staff. Possibly there may be the 1 or 2 staff members on duty for each shift .
  • The caretaker for your family member must stay alert to their health and needs.
  • Checking with them daily. Either by being present or by phone.
  • Check physically at least once a week. Just remember it’s the ones left alone that will be at a disadvantage or taken advantage of. Without frequent communication and things go awry, you will not be aware it happened. You will never know something happened until the one you are caring for speaks up and tells you so.

I know our lives have become very busy between work and children. But they need you now more than ever.

Things to check on when you visit:

  • Loosing Weight
  • Gaining Weight
  • Proper Bowel Movements
  • Keeping Hydrated, especially during the hot months
  • Food supply
  • They have personal needs items. Toothpaste, deodorant and such
  • Making sure Bills are paid. Electric, gas, phone and rent or mortgage.
  • That they are able to lock doors and windows by themselves

Fresh Squeezed Blueberry Lemonade

Fresh Homemade Blueberry Lemonade

Fresh Squeezed Blueberry Lemonade   By Orgnatlife.com   May 24, 2017

The heat index is up today and mowing the lawn calls for a special treat.

You can add all types of fresh fruit to your water. This just happens to be a favorite to replenish my energy that the sun zaps away.

I make this a day ahead of time. I like the fruit and sweetener to ferment.

Recipe is for one serving

Ingredients

  • 1 lemon
  • 1/2 cup Blueberries fresh
  • 1 teaspoon honey, sugarcane syrup or your preference of sweetener.
  • 16 ounce water
  • 20 ounce Mason Jar

Great Little Option that I love Adding to all my Lemonade recipes. 1/8 teaspoon peeled and finely chopped Fresh Ginger.

Directions

  • Gather your ingredients.
  • Wash and Cut the Lemons end off
  • Cut a Cross in open end
  • With your juicer ream out all pulp and juice.
  • Add the lemon juice to your mason jars. If you don’t like pulp you can use a strainer.
  • Add the lemon rind to the mason jar
  • Adding the Blueberries, there are two ways to do this, blender or by hand. I do mine by hand, I enjoy the pulp. So mash blueberries with a fork or blenderize.
  • Add your Sweetener of choice
  • Add you water

Refrigerate over night. Or you can add Ice and drink right away

Enjoy in the shade!!!

Strawberry Season… Strawberry Jam

Homemade Fresh Strawberry Jam Finished

PREP-TIME 2 hours

Just thinking of the sweetness of the ripe strawberries is enough to get me to make a fresh batch of strawberry jam.

I only add 1 tablespoon of sugar to 2 cups of strawberries and a squeeze of lemon to put a smart tartness.

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Strawberries (Fresh Or Frozen)bring strawberries to room temperature
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar (Sugar Cane or your sweetener of choice)
  • 1/8 Teaspoon Fresh Lemon Juice

(If you want a tarter jam put 1/8 teaspoon Lemon Zest Also)

Directions

Place your strawberries in pan and cover Strawberries with sugar and set aside for a few hours. Let the Strawberries come to room temperature. (you can also do this over-nite in the refrigerator)

078

Cover Strawberries 1/2″ above berries with water on High boil for 15 minutes.

079Place lid on pan, turn heat down to medium-high, continue boiling with lid on and steam vent closed on lid for 5 minutes.

083Turn lid to vent steam from pan

Reduce heat to medium set timer for 10 minutes.

086Remove lid

Re-Set timer every 10 minutes for the next 60 minutes. Make sure to stir each time.

Over Half of the water should be gone.

088Turn your fire to very low and continue to stir the Strawberry Jam. The strawberries should be reducing quickly now.

Don’t let it burn. Watch your heat closely. If it is boiling to much turn your heat down.. You just want a very faint bubble action. Like a couple of bubbles every few seconds.

Continue with the reduction until the strawberries are to the thickness you like.

089Let cool down in pan

092Spoon into your mason jar.

Will keep for 14 days in refrigerator. If you want to persevere them by adding a canning method they will last over a year.

Don’t Be Fooled By The EGGS Cover… Yummy for your Tummy and Body

Don’t Be Fooled By The EGGS Cover…
Eggs are so nutritious that they’re often referred to as “nature’s multivitamin.”

They also have unique antioxidants and powerful brain nutrients that many people are deficient in.

Here are some reasons why eggs are among the healthiest foods on the planet.

  • Whole Eggs Are Among The Most Nutritious Foods on Earth
  • One whole egg contains an amazing range of nutrients.
  • Just imagine… the nutrients in there are enough to turn a single fertilized cell into an entire baby chicken.
  • Eggs are loaded with vitamins, minerals, high quality proteins, good fats and various other lesser-known nutrients.
  • One large egg contains (1):
  • Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin): 9% of the RDA.
  • Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin): 15% of the RDA.
  • Vitamin A: 6% of the RDA.
  • Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid): 7% of the RDA.
  • Selenium: 22% of the RDA.

Eggs also contain small amounts of almost every vitamin and mineral required by the human body… including calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, manganese, Vitamin E, Folate and many more.

A large egg contains 77 calories, with 6 grams of quality protein, 5 grams of fat and trace amounts of carbohydrates.

It’s very important to realize that almost all the nutrients are contained in the yolk, the white contains only protein.

That should make you want to eat eggs right now. But here are some more reasons why Eggs are the Healthiest Food on Earth.

  • Eggs Improve Your Cholesterol Profile and do NOT Raise Your Risk of Cardiovascular Disease
  • The main reason people have been warned about eggs is that they’re loaded with cholesterol.
  • One large egg contains 212 mg of cholesterol, which is a LOT compared to most other foods.
However, just because a food contains cholesterol doesn’t mean that it will raise the bad cholesterol in the blood.
  • The liver actually produces cholesterol, every single day. If you eat cholesterol, then your liver produces less. If you don’t eat cholesterol, then your liver produces more of it.
  • The thing is, many studies show that eggs actually improve your cholesterol profile.
  • Eggs tend to raise HDL (the “good”) cholesterol and they tend to change the LDL (the “bad”) cholesterol to a large subtype which is not associated with an increased risk of heart disease (2, 3, 4).
  • One study discovered that 3 whole eggs per day reduced insulin resistance, raised HDL and increased the size of LDL particles in men and women with metabolic syndrome (5).
  • Multiple studies have examined the effects of egg consumption on the risk of cardiovascular disease and found no association between the two (6, 7, 8).

However, some studies do show an increased risk of cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients. This needs further research though and probably doesn’t apply on a low-carb diet, which can in many cases reverse type II diabetes (9, 10, 11).

Bottom Line: Studies show that eggs actually improve the cholesterol profile. They raise HDL (the good) cholesterol and increase the size of LDL particles, which should lower the risk of heart disease.

Eggs Are Loaded With Choline, an Important Nutrient For The Brain

  • Choline is a lesser-known nutrient that is often grouped with the B-complex vitamins.
  • Choline is an essential nutrient for human health and is needed for various processes in the body.
  • It is required to synthesize the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and is also a component of cell membranes.
  • A low choline intake has been implicated in liver diseases, cardiovascular disease and neurological disorders (12).
  • This nutrient may be especially important for pregnant women. Studies show that a low choline intake can raise the risk of neural tube defects and lead to decreased cognitive function in the offspring (13).
  • In a dietary survey in the U.S. from 2003-2004, over 90% of people ate less than the daily recommended amount of choline (14)!
  • The best sources of choline in the diet are egg yolks and beef liver. One large egg contains 113 mg of Choline.

Eggs Contain High Quality Proteins With a Perfect Amino Acid Profile

  • Proteins are the main building blocks of the body and serve both structural and functional purposes.
  • They consist of amino acids that are linked together, kind of like beads on a string, then folded into complex shapes.
  • There are about 21 amino acids that the body uses to build its proteins.
  • The body can not produce 9 of these amino acids, which are deemed as “essential” and must be gotten from the diet.
  • The quality of a protein source is determined by its relative amounts of these essential amino acids. A protein source that contains all of them in the right ratios is a good source of protein.
  • Eggs are among the best sources of protein in the diet. In fact, the biological value (a measure of protein quality) is often evaluated by comparing it to eggs, which are given the perfect score of 100.

Eggs Are Loaded With Lutein and Zeaxanthin, Which Protect The Eyes

  • There are two antioxidants in eggs that can have powerful protective effects on the eyes.
  • They are called Lutein and Zeaxanthin, both found in the yolk.
  • Lutein and Zeaxanthin tend to accumulate in the retina, the sensory part of the eye.
  • These antioxidants significantly reduce the risk of Macular Degeneration and Cataracts, which are among the leading causes of vision impairment and blindness in the elderly (15, 16, 17).
  • In one study, eating 1.3 egg yolks per day for 4.5 weeks increased blood levels of Zeaxanthin by 114-142% and Lutein by 28-50% (18).

Eggs For Breakfast Can Help You Lose Body Fat

  • Eggs contain only trace amounts of carbohydrates, but plenty of protein and fat.
  • They score very high on a scale called the Satiety Index, which is a measure of how much foods contribute to satiety (19).
  • For this reason, it is not surprising to see studies where eating eggs for breakfast leads to fat loss.
  • In one study, 30 overweight or obese women consumed either a breakfast of eggs or a breakfast of bagels. Both breakfasts had the same amount of calories.
  • The women in the egg group felt more full and ate less calories for the rest of the day and for the next 36 hours (20).

In another study that went on for 8 weeks, eating eggs for breakfast lead to significant weight improvements compared to the same amount of calories from bagels. The egg group (21):

  • Lost 65% more body weight.
  • Lost 16% more body fat.
  • Had a 61% greater reduction in BMI.
  • Had a 34% greater reduction in waist circumference (a good marker for the dangerous abdominal fat).

Not All Eggs Are The Same

It’s important to keep in mind that not all eggs are created equal.

Hens are often raised in factories, caged and fed grain-based feed that alters the final nutrient composition of the eggs. It is best to buy Omega-3 enriched or pastured eggs, they are more nutritious and healthier.

However, conventional supermarket eggs are still a good choice if you can’t afford or access the others.

To top things off, eggs are cheap, taste awesome and go with almost any food.

Eggs really are an egg-ceptional super-food.

Eggs Scrambled with Onion, Garlic and Sweet Cherry Tomatoes

Servings: 1

Sauté 1/4 sweet onion and a smashed garlic clove over medium-high heat in 1 teaspoon canola or olive oil until almost soft. Add a handful of chopped tomatoes to the pan (or any other vegetables you happen to have, such as chopped spinach, kale, mushrooms or peppers) and cook for another 5 minutes. Turn down the heat to very low. In a separate bowl, whisk two eggs. Pour eggs into the pan containing the onion, garlic and tomato — add 1 ounce low-fat cheese, if you wish. Stir continuously until eggs are cooked. Pour over toasted, whole rye bread. Bon Appitite…

Effective Detoxification

DETOXING THE RIGHT AND SAFE WAY

Preparation to get the most out of an ionic detox. It is important to take in specific nutrients that will help the body better function to release toxins through urination, defecation and sweating. The goal is to bring the body back to optimal health.

Required for everyone:

  • Drink eleven glasses of water (2/3 of a gallon or 2.5 liters) of pure water (preferably pH 9.0 to 10.0) daily. Eat plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits (limit sweet fruits, wash thoroughly) and grains.
  • During an ionic detox protocol, it is important to consume enough fiber, both soluble and insoluble. This rejuvenates the colon and accelerates the elimination of toxins from the body. It is very important for boosting immunity. The best sources of fiber are whole foods (fruits, vegetables and grains.) Because it is not always possible to get enough fiber this way, one can take a scoop of fiber supplement 5 minutes before breakfast and dinner with a large glass of water. 100% Natural USDA certified organic fiber supplement that naturally supports cleansing for a healthy digestive environment. It helps entrap toxins such as metals, lead, mercury and other environmental pollutants with the gastrointestinal tract for removal from the body. Natural Fiber resists breakdown and fermentation by intestinal flora and will not re-circulate toxins into the body.
  • Most likely, some good minerals will become depleted during each detox session. Therefore, it is important to always take a highly absorbable mineral supplement. For ladies, the replenishment of minerals is a must.

Recommended for everyone:

  • To improve the function of the immune system, colon and to increase the absorption of nutrients, take 3 capsules per day of probiotics, preferably 100% Natural plant based broad spectrum formulae, that includes a higher lactobacillus strain.
  • Digestive enzymes are energized protein molecules essential for the digestion of food, brain stimulation, cell, tissue & organ repair and generating cellular energy. These enzymes are secreted along the gastrointestinal tract and break down food in the body so that nutrients can be absorbed properly. Digestive enzymes are also present in the food we eat but they are inactivated when cooked. They are “turned off” at a dry-heat temperature of 150°F (65°C) and a wet temperature of 118°F (48°C). If our body relies too much on its own digestive enzymes, the result is more stress placed on our systems and organs. This leaves less time and energy for other jobs such as rebuilding and replacing damaged cells & tissues and keeping the immune system strong. When one eats plenty of raw foods and takes a high quality whole food enzyme supplement such as during meals, this can help avoid depletion of the body’s own enzymes, thereby reducing stress.
  • Omega-3 fish oil is an important part of an ionic detox program because it helps the body to balance at a healthy lipid level, helps with cardiovascular health, boosts immunity and has numerous other health benefits. Unless the fish oil is pharmaceutical grade and molecularly distilled, it is likely to contain high levels of hazardous contaminants. We recommend taking Fish Oil with breakfast and dinner (depending on tolerance) during the ionic detox protocol.

The primary function of the Bio-Photon Analyzer is to provide countermeasures to stress on the body’s energetic system.

  • Broadcast intent, energy, healing frequencies and remedies.
  • Balance and stabilize the body.
  • Detoxify the body at a safe rate.
  • Neutralize chemicals and pesticides that are on food.
  • Increase the potency of a homeopathic remedy.
  • Create a unique isopathic remedy from your witness sample.
  • Helps to reduce the stress on your body’s energetic system!
  • Supports and reinforces your body’s natural balance for optimal health.
  • Supports the detoxifying of your body at a safe and gentle rate.
  • Neutralizes stressful energetic residue that may be contaminating our foods.
  • Antidotes and neutralizes the energetic effects of chemicals and toxins in household products that may be weakening your body. Neutralizes harmful energies in your living area and land, including sick buildings, water and soil.
  • An essential tool for Feng Shui practitioners and professionals who want to increase their revenue and produce astounding results for their clients.
  • Helps to reduce the effects of electromagnetic field that may weaken your immune system.
  • Customizes the energetic match of a homeopathic remedy
  • Creates your own individual isopathic restorative structure in just 40 seconds

People who use an analyzer are able to reduce the amount of offensive substances your body is exposed to, therefore reducing the stress on the total system. This process allows the body to spend more of its energy striving for good energy, instead of dealing with substances that are causing disease throughout the body. The additional detoxification created by the analyzer within the system also helps speed the energetic process.

Using the Analyzer will help you feel better, fight off illness easier, reduce your allergic reactions and find the energetic, happier life you are looking for.

How does the ABPA do this?

The ABPA helps to bring a weakened state up to the parameters of good health and balance by creating an energetic signal exactly opposite to the one that is stressing your body (called an isopathic restorative structure). This isopathic restorative structure signal from the ABPA compensates for the stress on the energy field of your body and helps eliminates the stressful negative effect – this gives you back the energy and counters the stress that may be creating imbalance in your body.

Are We Losing Our Natural Vitamin Sources?

Are We Losing Our Natural Vitamin Sources?

Any more there is nothing that we can consume as far as vitamins or food that can benefit the humans total system. Forget the optimal diet. The mega-doses of vitamins and minerals can no longer ensure the preservation of good health for most Americans.

Ask around like we did and sure enough you begin to acquire a valuable database of folk remedies. Everyone we asked had a home remedy or two; a grandmother’s remedy to cure gout (apple cider vinegar), a remedy to stop diarrhea within minutes (turmeric), an old Mexican cure for a nagging cough (garlic). They are adding more “Home Grown” veggies into their Lifestyle. The quality of the vitamins sourced from “Store Bought” veggies is weak. All due to GMO and over Farming the minerals from the soil.

Unfortunately, our immune systems have been subjected to poisons unparalleled in previous centuries and unimaginable by our earlier ancestors.

  • The placement of toxic mercury amalgam fillings in our mouths
  • The pervasive petrochemicals polluting our homes and environment
  • The injection of DNA-damaging childhood vaccinations
  • The excessive use of antibiotics and other prescription drugs
  • The excessive use of Dangerous Chemicals to maintain weeds and bugs

These are just a sample of the modern-day traumatizing effects that have rendered many individuals chronically ill. Until these and other “obstacles to cure” are adequately addressed, general guidelines–although important to maintain a healthy lifestyle–are simply no longer adequate to fend off degenerative disease and help individuals regain their birthright of optimal health. Indeed, in our current toxic environment, much more radical measures are required.

At this stage Detoxing is very critical to maintain good health. As we consume more food and water we continue to consume high levels of toxins. There are several ways to achieve detoxing in a manner that does not put your body into major shock.

  • Eating Clean with a good balanced wholesome food
  • No YO YO Dieting, eat what you want as long as it is clean food
  • Juicing and consuming the pulp in healthy cooked recipes
  • Exercising is a good way to release toxins through sweating
  • Gentle Ionic Detoxing
  • Omega-3 fish oil is an important part of any detox program
  • Bio Mat
  • Inferred Therapy

These are DO NOT DO THIS

  • Detoxing the wrong way is very dangerous
  • Causing a shock to your immune system by draining all the vitamins and minerals from your system.
  • Starving your System with Fasting, especially water only
  • NO YO YO Dieting. My opinion is that dieting is the worst for your system. It does not work as a permanent solution and it is very unhealthy.

Super Delicious “Off the Wall” Bean Recipes #1

This week’s pick is, “Beans with Wild exotic names”. Not your average corner supermarket staple product that’s for sure. Don’t fret these beans can be found online and at several stores.

This is just the start to a 10 part series on beans, so have fun and enjoy.

#1 Eye Of The Goat Beans

The Eye Of The Goat Bean (or “Ojo de Cabra” Beans) is an heirloom runner type bean related to Scarlet runner beans. Beans originated in Central and South America and began to be cultivated in Mexico over 2,000 years ago.

They are round, slightly kidney shaped with a beige-tan background and curved brown stripes. They have a creamy texture, smooth silky texture to the pallet. They keep their shape after cooking. Robust flavor balances perfectly together with your sauces or casseroles.

I used these in place of pinto beans in my Chili Recipe.  Soak overnight and cook 1 hour or until tender. (Depends on your water quality). Add to your favorite recipes. The Eye of the Goat bean has a great natural flavor but still is very versatile and a perfect vehicle for bold flavors. They can be substituted for pinto, black-eyed pea, cranberry, or red kidney beans.

Chile Verde Con Cerdo (Green Chili With Pork)

Spiced with árbol and chiles, this mellow, satisfying chili compliments pork, chicken or beef and Rancho Gordo’s Ojo de Cabra (Eye of the Goat) beans.

  • 3 dried árbol chiles, stemmed and seeded
  • 1 dried guajillo chile, stemmed and seeded
  • 1 ancho chile, stemmed and seeded
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon hot pimentón de la Vera (smoked Spanish paprika)
  • Kosher salt or sea salt
  • 2 pounds trimmed, boneless pork shoulder, chicken or beef, rinsed and picked over, then cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cups dried Eye of the Goat or red kidney beans (Soaked and Cooked)
  • 1 thick slice of bacon (1 ounce), cut into 1/4-inch strips
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 large onion, cut into 1/2-inch dice
  • 1 cup dark Mexican beer
  • 2 cups chicken stock or low-sodium broth
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • Sour cream, cilantro sprigs and lime wedges, for serving

DIRECTIONS

In a heatproof bowl, soak the arbol, guajillo and ancho chilies in the boiling water until softened, about 20 minutes. Drain the chilies, reserving 1/3 cup of the soaking liquid. Coarsely chop the chilies.

In a small skillet, toast the cumin seeds over moderate heat until fragrant, about 20 seconds. Transfer the seeds to a blender. Add the chilies and their reserved soaking liquid along with the oregano, garlic, paprika and 1 tablespoon of salt. Puree until smooth. Scrape the chile puree into a large nonreactive bowl or baking dish. Add the meat and toss to coat thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

In a large saucepan, cover the beans with 2 inches of water and soak overnight. Rinse, add water 2” over beans and bring to a boil. Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 1 hour; add more water as needed to keep the beans covered by 2 inches. When the beans are just tender but still al dente, season them with salt and let stand in their cooking liquid for 5 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 375. In a large, enameled cast-iron casserole, cook the bacon over moderate heat until the fat has rendered, about 3 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to a large plate. Add the olive oil to the casserole. Working in batches, cook the chile-meat mixture over moderately high heat, turning a few times, until richly browned all over, about 4 minutes. Transfer the browned meat to the plate with the bacon.

Add the onion to the casserole and cook over moderately low heat, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 10 minutes. Add the meat and bacon and any accumulated juices and stir well. Add the beer and boil over high heat until reduced by half, about 8 minutes. Add the chicken stock and bring to a simmer.

Cover the casserole, transfer it to the oven and bake for about 30 minutes, until the goat is tender when pierced with a fork. Add the beans and bake, uncovered, for about 10 minutes, until they are warmed through. Remove the casserole from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer the chili to bowls and serve with the sour cream, cilantro sprigs and lime wedges.

Make Ahead, the chili can be refrigerated for up to 3 days. Reheat gently.

KWRT1420For this dish I also prepared a second recipe. I substituted Jacobs Cattle Beans in place the “Eye Of The Goat”. It complimented the dish very well. When you have several pounds of these beans, you have to experiment.

Stop the Press…Science is taking a different view at your mental/physical health relationship.

New science technology is lending it’s ear to the mental issues hidden behind chronic illness and how to solve the mystery.

“The term “energy medicine” has been in general use since the founding of the non-profit International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine in the 1980s. Guides are available for practitioners, and other books aim to provide a theoretical basis and evidence for the practice. Energy medicine often proposes that imbalances in the body’s “energy field” result in illness, and that by re-balancing the body’s energy-field health can be restored.[33] Some modalities describe treatments as ridding the body of negative energies or blockages in ‘mind’; illness or episodes of ill health after a treatment are referred to as a ‘release’ or letting go of a ‘contraction’ in the body-mind. Usually, a practitioner will then recommend further treatments for complete healing.

The US-based National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) distinguishes between health care involving scientifically observable energy, which it calls “Veritable Energy Medicine”, and health care methods that invoke physically undetectable or unverifiable “energies”, which it calls “Putative Energy Medicine”:[33]

Types of “veritable energy medicine” include magnet therapy, colorpuncture, and light therapy. Medical techniques involving the use electromagnetic radiation (e.g. radiation therapy or magnetic resonance imaging) are not considered “energy medicine” in the terms of alternative medicine.

Types of “putative energy medicine” include biofield energy healing therapies where the hands are used to direct or modulate “energies” which are believed to effect healing in the patient;[34][verification needed] this includes spiritual healing and psychic healing, Therapeutic touch, Healing Touch, Esoteric healing, Magnetic healing (now a historical term not to be confused with magnet therapy), Qigong healing, Reiki, Pranic healing, Crystal healing, distant healing, intercessory prayer, and similar modalities.[35][verification needed][36] Concepts such as Qi (Chi), Prana, Innate Intelligence, Mana, Pneuma, Vital fluid, Odic force, and Orgone are among the many terms that have been used to describe these putative energy fields.[35] This category does not include Acupuncture, Ayurvedic medicine, Chiropractic, and other modalities where a physical intervention is used to manipulate a putative energy.

I do know a few people that call themselves Naturopathic doctors, in some states you need a license in others you don’t. Here’s some info on that.

“Naturopathic practitioners in Switzerland can be divided into three groups: those with federal diploma, those recognized by health insurances, and those with neither federal diploma nor recognition by health insurances. Naturopaths with federal diploma can be divided into four categories: European traditional medicine, Chinese traditional medicine, ayurvedic medicine and homeopathy.[43][44] The number of listed naturopaths (including traditional healers) in Switzerland rose from 223 in 1970 to 1835 in 2000.[45].

Naturopathic practitioners in the United States can be divided into three groups: naturopathic physicians, traditional naturopaths, and other health care providers who offer naturopathic services.[15][46][47][48][49].

Licensure

Naturopathic doctors are licensed in 17 US states and 5 Canadian provinces”.

Quick and Easy Blueberry Muffins Recipe

Quick and Easy Blueberry Muffins Recipe

Blueberry Muffin’s

PREP 10min   COOK 20mins   TOTAL 30mins

Makes 8 large, big-topped muffins / 10 standard muffins / 20-22 mini muffins

All you need is one bowl. This recipe is so easy when we’re in the mood for something other than cereal, we’ll skip pancakes and make these for breakfast instead.

Since most standard muffin tins have 12 muffin cups, if you plan on making the larger muffins, we recommend adding 1 to 2 tablespoons of water to the empty cups. This way the cups with water will heat up at the same rate as the cups with muffin batter, helping the muffins cook evenly.

You Will Need

  • 1 1/2 cups (195 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (150 grams) granulated sugar, plus 1 tablespoon for muffin tops
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) neutral flavored oil; canola, vegetable and grape seed are great
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 – 1/2 cup (80 ml – 120 ml) milk; dairy and non-dairy both work
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 6 to 8 ounces fresh or frozen blueberries; see note below about frozen berries (about 1 cup)

Directions

Prepare Oven and Muffin Cups

Heat oven to 400 degrees F.

For big-topped muffins, line 8 standard-size muffin cups with paper liners. For standard-size muffins line 10 muffin cups. Fill the remaining cups with 1 to 2 tablespoons of water to help the muffins bake evenly.

  •  Whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  • Add oil to a measuring jug that holds at least 1 cup. Add the egg then fill the jug to the 1-cup line with milk (1/3 to 1/2 cup milk). Add vanilla and whisk to combine.
  • Add milk mixture to the bowl with dry ingredients then use a fork to combine. Do not over mix. (The muffin batter will be quite thick — see note below for more details). Fold in the blueberries.
  • Divide the batter between muffin cups. (If making big-topped muffins, the batter will come to the tops of the paper liners). Sprinkle a little sugar on top of each muffin.
  • Bake muffins 15 to 20 minutes or until tops are no longer wet and a toothpick inserted into the middle of a muffin comes out with crumbs, not wet batter. Transfer to a cooling rack.
  • After muffins have cooled, place them in a plastic bag, seal, and store at room temperature for 2 to 3 days. To freeze, wrap them tightly in aluminum foil or place them in freezer bags. Freeze for up to 3 months.

Tips

You can make these with fresh or frozen blueberries – if you use frozen, do not thaw the blueberries.

For mini muffins, the baking time will be less — keep an eye on them while they bake and expect them to require 9 to 11 minutes.

Batter Thickness: The batter should be thick and “scoopable” — not runny and not dry or extra thick like dough. If the batter is too runny, add flour, a tablespoon at a time until correct consistency. If batter is dry or too thick, add milk, a tablespoon at a time until correct consistency.

Avoiding Sports Injuries

How can I avoid a sports injury?

The most common cause of a sports injury is the failure to warm-up sufficiently before beginning strenuous activity, however injuries are also often caused by the incorrect use of equipment and insufficient safety precautions. Those most susceptible to sports injury are competitive and professional athletes, whose intense training can make certain muscles vulnerable to injury through overuse.

Although it is impossible to prevent injury all the time due to the unpredictable nature of sports and physical activities, it is possible to undertake precautionary steps in order to decrease the likelihood of incurring an injury. Below are detailed the key steps to preventing a sporting injury.

Warm Up

The warm-up is the most important and significant way to reduce the likelihood of injury when participating in sports. A sufficient warm-up session should last at least 5-10 minutes, and involves gently stretching and exercising muscles to prepare them for the strenuous activity to follow. It is vital to start the warm-up slowly, and build up gradually to a more brisk and energetic pace.

Warming up in this way allows an increased flow of blood to reach the muscles, increasing the flexibility of the muscle fibres and significantly reducing the risk of pulling or straining a muscle. Ideal warm-up exercises include steady walking and jogging. These activities allow you to gradually increase the pace to further prepare your body for strenuous exercise.

When you have warmed up, you can undertake some gentle stretches to lengthen the muscles and tendons, further preventing injury.  Pay particular attention to stretching those muscles which will be used during your exercise.
Use the correct protective equipment

For some sports, protective equipment is important to prevent damage to participants. This is particularly important when the sport or activity involves physical contact with other players and participants. Protective equipment may include shin pads (used in football and hockey), boxing gloves or protective head gear. All these pieces of equipment are designed to prevent injury to vulnerable parts of the body.

It is also important to wear correct footwear when participating in sports. The correct shoes can offer support to the foot and ankle, helping to prevent twisting and injury. Protective head gear is obviously extremely important, as helmets protect the skull and the brain from damage. This is vital in contact sports where the head may be knocked.

Many sports involve a particular technique which can minimise the risk of injury. It is important to learn the correct techniques associated with your chosen sport. By practising good technique an individual can greatly reduce the risk of sports-related injury to muscles, tendons and bones. This is also important in the gym, where experts will be on hand to help you use all equipment safely and effectively.

Do not over-reach yourself

It is extremely important, when taking part in physical activities, to listen to your body and know your physical limits. When you begin a new sport, begin slowly and steadily to avoid pulling or straining muscles which your body may not be used to using or stretching. If you have not undertaken strenuous exercise for some time, it is especially important to build up your stamina and strength gradually to avoid injury. Over time, you will notice your fitness increase, and you will be able to undertake physical activity for longer periods of time.

Remain hydrated

Water is vital to keep the body going, and this is especially true when you are active and exercising. If you are exercising in heat or in sunny weather, it is especially important to keep your body hydrated as dehydration can significantly reduce mental and physical fitness.

Cool down

Just as it is important to warm-up properly, it is also essential that you cool down sufficiently after physical activity. After your work out, spend at least 5-10 minutes undertaking a gentle form of exercise (such as walking) to return your heart rate to a normal pace. The cool-down process allows your body to remove the muscles’ waste products and replace these with oxygen and nutrients. This helps to prevent stiffness of the muscles after exercising, and allows your muscles to recover steadily from physical activity.

Suspended Noah: Found to be using supplement to aid injuries

Suspended Noah: Found to be using supplement to aid injuries

GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — Joakim Noah was seeking help to overcome injuries that wrecked his first season in New York and turned to an over-the-counter supplement.

That decision “backfired,” Noah said Tuesday.

It led to a 20-game suspension for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy , preventing Noah from ending a disappointing year on a positive note.

“This was a tough moment, but I’m going to learn from it,” Noah said. “I tried to take a supplement to help me with everything I’ve gone through. I’ve gone through a lot of injuries, and I tried to take something to help me and it backfired.”

Noah returned to practice Tuesday following Feb. 27 surgery to remove a loose body from his left knee. The knee injury came after a hamstring injury he was trying to recover from around the All-Star break.

Spinach Leaf Transformed Into Beating Human Heart Tissue

National Geographic    By Delaney Chambers    Published March 26, 2017

Using the plant like scaffolding, scientists built a mini version of a working heart, which may one day aid in tissue regeneration.

Scientists have found a way to use spinach to build working human heart muscle, potentially solving a long-standing problem in efforts to repair damaged organs.

Their study, published this month by the journal Biomaterials, offers a new way to grow a vascular system, which has been a roadblock for tissue engineering.

Scientists have already created large-scale human tissue in a lab using methods like 3D printing, but it’s been much harder to grow the small, delicate blood vessels that are vital to tissue health.

Transforming a Spinach Leaf Into Beating Human Heart Tissue

“The main limiting factor for tissue engineering … is the lack of a vascular network,” says study co-author Joshua Gershlak, a graduate student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Massachusetts, in a video describing the study. “Without that vascular network, you get a lot of tissue death.”
One of the defining traits of a leaf is the branching network of thin veins that delivers water and nutrients to its cells. Now, scientists have used plant veins to replicate the way blood moves through human tissue. The work involves modifying a spinach leaf in the lab to remove its plant cells, which leaves behind a frame made of cellulose.

“Cellulose is biocompatible [and] has been used in a wide variety of regenerative medicine applications, such as cartilage tissue engineering, bone tissue engineering, and wound healing,” the authors write in their paper.

The team then bathed the remaining plant frame in live human cells, so that the human tissue grew on the spinach scaffolding and surrounded the tiny veins. Once they had transformed the spinach leaf into a sort of mini heart, the team sent fluids and microbeads through its veins to show that blood cells can flow through this system.

The eventual goal is to be able to replace damaged tissue in patients who have had heart attacks or who have suffered other cardiac issues that prevent their hearts from contracting. Like blood vessels, the veins in the modified leaves would deliver oxygen to the entire swath of replacement tissue, which is crucial in generating new heart matter.

The study team says the same methods could be used with different types of plants to repair a variety of tissues in the body. For instance, swapping out the cells in wood might one day help fix human bones.

We have a lot more work to do, but so far this is very promising,” study co-author Glenn Gaudette, also of WPI, says in a press statement. “Adapting abundant plants that farmers have been cultivating for thousands of years for use in tissue engineering could solve a host of problems limiting the field.”

North Carolina was denied a chance at the NCAA men’s basketball title by a last-second shot last year. This year, they’re going back to the Final Four with the help of a last-second shot of their own.
Sophomore reserve Luke Maye nailed a tie-breaking jumper with 0.3 seconds to go to lead the Tar Heels to a 75-73 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats in the South Regional Final Sunday evening in Memphis.

Maye’s heroics came seconds after Kentucky’s Malik Monk hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 73 with 7.2 seconds left. It was a dramtic ending to a breathtaking game between the top two seeds in the region.

Trailing 64-59, North Carolina went on a 12-0 run and led 71-64 with 54 seconds to go. Kentucky battled back, as Monk and freshman De’Aron Fox hit quick three-pointers to make the score 71-70.

Christina El Moussa showed off a new side of herself.

The “Flip or Flop” star usually dresses casually on her HGTV show but the mom-of-two got dolled up for a new photo shoot.

sad face flip flop

The 33-year-old donned a fitted black Walter Mendez dress with a high neckline and gold detailing for the shoot.

“When I was asked by the super talented @damir_k to do a photoshoot you can bet I went for it,” El Moussa wrote on Instagram. She did not say what the shoot was for “@damir_k you are the best in the industry.

El Moussa’s sexy post comes amid rumors the reality star is dating NHL player Nate Thompson.

While a rep for El Moussa denies there is anything romantic between the “Flip or Flop” star and the Anaheim Ducks player, a source told Us Weekly “she’s very into him and it’s super new.”

Don’t Let Your Wedding Become a Disaster…

Top 10 Wedding Don’ts:

Don’t Let Your Wedding Become a Disaster…
By: Denise Schipani

Adhere to these guidelines and make sure your wedding is a hit for you and your guests.

Of course you want to have a fabulous big day, so you must plan accordingly to avoid any potential pitfalls along the way. Take a look at these all-too-common “please don’ts.” (Psst! They’re all avoidable.) Remember: Forewarned is forearmed!

1. Don’t be superbride.

You’re smart, you’re focused, you’re energetic. But you’re still one woman. Superbrides—those engaged gals who devote every waking hour to wedding planning, brushing aside all offers of help—eventually run out of steam and end up near the big day with favors unassembled, invitations unstamped, shoes undyed, heads uncounted. How to avoid this fate? Call in your trusty sidekicks before you’re really scrambling. Here’s a little secret: People want to help. So do yourself a huge favor and accept their kind offers. Then, once you’ve got a cadre of pals stuffing your envelopes, sit back and have your toenails polished. You deserve it.

2. Don’t have a cash bar.

Forcing guests to reach into their sequined clutches every time they want to enjoy a celebratory champagne or a refreshing gin and tonic is just plain rude. Think of it like this: You invite people to a party—your wedding, for heaven’s sake!—and then you ask them to shell out for part of the fun. It’s a recipe for bad feelings! Keep in mind that you don’t have to have a top-shelf bar; in fact, there are plenty of other ways to serve and save. You could offer wine and beer only or create a signature cocktail. You might have an open bar during the cocktail hour only and serve wine at dinner. Ask your caterer to suggest lower-cost options.

3. Don’t include registry info on invites.

Registering is a good thing for everyone. When gift buyers are steered to the things you actually want and need, it saves them time—and saves you from having to contend with a pile of cut-crystal candy bowls. Registry info, however, does not belong on your wedding invitation. Why? Giving wedding gifts is never mandatory, though the vast majority of attendees will naturally want to do just that. Best way to get the message across is by word of mouth on the part of your mother or your bridesmaids or on bridal-shower invites.

4. Don’t be bossy with your bridesmaids.

In the most traditional sense, your bridesmaids, in particular your maid of honor, are there to stand up for you as you take your vows, to act as witnesses to this solemn event. Somewhere along the line, bridesmaids have become, well, more like maids, and to an extent there’s nothing wrong with that. These are your sisters, cousins, best friends, future in-laws, and there’s something sort of sweet about the way they gather around you, wearing finery you picked out, helping you pin up your bustle, holding your flowers. But some brides ask (or worse, demand) far more: They expect their bridesmaids to shell out for needlessly expensive outfits, to run endless errands, to wear their hair just so, to attend (and buy gifts for) countless all-for-you parties. Don’t let this happen. Be sensitive to how you’d feel if the tables were turned. Gifts to the maids are always welcome, of course, but a little kindness and care go a lot further than any pashmina shawl or monogrammed trinket.

I once attended a lovely wedding in a quaint wooden church in a rural area. Beautiful. Then I checked my invite. What?! The reception was scheduled for much later in the day, at a location that was a good 45-minute drive away. Sometimes it can be hard to plan a perfectly seamless schedule, especially if your heart is set on sites that are wildly inconvenient to one another or if your ceremony and reception times don’t line up. But do your best. If you really must wed at, say, your childhood church, confine your search for reception locales to local spots. If that’s truly impossible or if you can’t avoid a time gap, provide transportation and/or a comfortable spot for guests to hang out while they wait.

6. Don’t plan a difficult destination wedding.

Ah, the lure of the exotic faraway wedding—you can just picture it, can’t you? Exchanging vows on top of a volcano in Hawaii… or how about in a ski gondola or on a majestic slope in the Austrian Alps? Hmmm, nice idea, but will Grandma Gert be up to the trip? Will your college pals drain their bank accounts to get there? No, and no. Destination weddings can be terrific, but as with any wedding, it’s not only about you, it’s also about your guests. While some friends and families welcome—and can afford—an Alpine adventure, others will end up resenting the cost and hassle or simply decline the invitation. Make it easy for everyone by (a) choosing a well-traveled locale, (b) planning well in advance and (c) providing information and help (securing group rates, for example). Bon voyage!

7. Don’t go DIY crazy.

You know that clever bride who sewed her own dress and designed and made her own invitations? Or the one who baked her own three-tiered cake? Everyone’s in awe of the girls who can do these things, and I say good for them—if they did it because they really, really wanted to, and if they managed not to get stressed out. The point of these projects is to use your craft/sewing/baking/designing skills to save money and to put a one-of-a-kind stamp on some aspect of the wedding. But if you are really not the hands-on type, don’t drive yourself crazy hot-gluing tulle and folding fiddly favors until 3 a.m. Do only what you can, and beg, borrow or buy the rest.

8. Don’t let parents steamroll your invite list.

Back in the days when parents footed the bill and brides were barely out of high school, the guest list was more Mom and Dad’s idea of a good party than the couple’s. Times have changed, but that doesn’t stop some pushy parents from insisting on having the whole book club, golf club or garden club at the wedding. Brush up on your negotiating skills and start early. Once you have a budget in mind, you can rough out the number of guests it’s feasible to invite. Then ask both sets of parents for invite lists, in order of preference, so you can cut from the bottom if necessary. Stay in charge!

9. Don’t forget about your fiancé.

It may not seem like something you’d do, but plenty of women surprise themselves. We’ve got our heads stuck in a glossary of floral terms (stephanotis? anemone?) when all our men know is that there will be flowers at the wedding. We’re neglecting our regular TV and pizza night in favor of dress fittings. Hey, listen up: You’re not just having a wedding, you’re getting married—to that guy over there, sitting on the couch, munching a cold slice of pizza. Put aside the bridal to-do lists and go give him a hug, would you? This is not just party-planning time, it’s major life transition time. So talk to each other. Talk about your life together. Talk about what color you want to paint the bedroom, what you want to name the puppy you’ll adopt—whatever. Anything but flowers and crab-cake appetizers, please.

10. Don’t bow to bridal peer pressure.

It’s insidious. You just got back from a friend’s wedding and you’re battling the green monster: She had an eight-piece band while you booked a DJ. She had Dom Perignon, you’re having sparkling wine. Well, stop right there. If you scramble your plans to best hers: 1) You’ll go over budget, and 2) You’ll hate yourself for it. Worse, you’ll veer off the course you set for your own dream wedding. She made her wedding hers. And you’re making your wedding yours. And that’s an “I do!”

Now for the good news: Here are some things you must do!

Practice self-care.

Do whatever it takes to help you unwind. That could mean a solo hike or a night out with friends. A day off at the movies or a too-expensive-but-who-cares massage.

Be organized.

It doesn’t matter whether you use a paper grocery bag or the fanciest new software. Stay organized, and sleep better at night.

Stick to your budget.

Early on, sit down with your fiancé and work out how much you can afford to spend and where to allot your money. Build in some room for surprises and extras that inevitably pop up.

Negotiate with vendors.

You don’t have to accept a quoted price. Ask if there can be substitutions that may bring the fee down.

Get him involved.

What are his interests? Perhaps music — give him the band or DJ assignment. If it’s food, he can research caterers. After all, the wedding belongs to the two of you!
Be grateful.

You’ll get lots of good wishes, gifts and offers of help. Say thank you to each and every one. You’re feeling good right now, so share all that beautiful love.

Dream big.

Not just about your wedding, but about your life. This is the next, greatest chapter in the story of you. Imagine how wonderful married life can be — and you’re almost there.

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Honey

By Dr. Mercola

benefits of honey, health benefits of honey, manuka honey benefits

Honey has been valued as a natural sweetener long before sugar became widely available in the 16th century. Honey production flourished in ancient Greece and Sicily, for instance, while animals other than humans – bears, badgers, and more – have long raided honeybee hives, risking stings for the sweet reward.1

Honey is truly a remarkable substance, made even more extraordinary by the process with which it is made. This blend of sugar, trace enzymes, minerals, vitamins, and amino acids is quite unlike any other sweetener on the planet.

And while honey is high in fructose, it has many health benefits when used in moderation (assuming you’re healthy). Before I delve into those, here’s a brief “lesson” on how honey is made…

How Honey Is Made (Fascinating!)
It takes about 60,000 bees, collectively traveling up to 55,000 miles and visiting more than 2 million flowers, to gather enough nectar to make one pound of honey.2

Once the nectar is gathered, the bee stores it in its extra stomach where it mixes with enzymes, and then passes it (via regurgitation) to another bee’s mouth. This process is repeated until the nectar becomes partially digested and is then deposited into a honeycomb.

Once there, the honeybees fan the liquid nectar with their wings, helping the water to evaporate and create the thick substance you know as “honey.” This honeycomb is then sealed with a liquid secretion from the bee’s abdomen, which hardens into beeswax. As Live Science reported:3

“Away from air and water, honey can be stored indefinitely, providing bees with the perfect food source for cold winter months.”
There are more than 300 kinds of honey in the US, each with a unique color and flavor that is dependent upon the nectar source. Lighter colored honeys, such as those made from orange blossoms, tend to be milder in flavor while darker-colored honeys, like those made from wildflowers, tend to have a more robust flavor.4

5 Honey Facts You Might Not Know
Honey, particularly in its raw form, offers unique health benefits that you might not be aware of. Among them…

1. Honey Makes Excellent Cough “Medicine”

The World Health Organization (WHO) lists honey as a demulcent, which is a substance that relieves irritation in your mouth or throat by forming a protective film.5

Research shows honey works as well as dextromethorphan, a common ingredient in over the counter cough medications, to soothe cough and related sleeping difficulties due to upper respiratory tract infections in children.

2. Honey Can Treat Wounds

Honey was a conventional therapy in fighting infection up until the early 20th century, at which time its use slowly vanished with the advent of penicillin. Now the use of honey in wound care is regaining popularity, as researchers are determining exactly how honey can help fight serious skin infections.

Honey has antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidants activities that make it ideal for treating wounds. In the US, Derma Sciences uses Manuka honey for their Medihoney wound and burn dressings.

Manuka honey is made with pollen gathered from the flowers of the Manuka bush (a medicinal plant), and clinical trials have found this type of honey can effectively eradicate more than 250 clinical strains of bacteria, including resistant varieties such as:

MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)
MSSA (methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus)
VRE (vancomycin-resistant enterococci)
Compared to other types of honey, Manuka has an extra ingredient with antimicrobial qualities, called the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF). It is so called because no one has yet been able to discover the unique substance involved that gives it its extraordinary antibacterial activity.

Honey releases hydrogen peroxide through an enzymatic process, which explains its general antiseptic qualities, but active Manuka honey contains “something else” that makes it far superior to other types of honey when it comes to killing off bacteria.7

That being said, research shows that any type of unprocessed honey helped wounds and ulcers heal. In one study, 58 of 59 wounds showed “remarkable improvement following topical application of honey.”8

3. Honey Improves Your Scalp

Honey diluted with a bit of warm water was shown to significantly improve seborrheic dermatitis, which is a scalp condition that causes dandruff and itching. After applying the solution every other day for four weeks, “all of the patients responded markedly.” According to the researchers:9

“Itching was relieved and scaling was disappeared within one week. Skin lesions were healed and disappeared completely within 2 weeks. In addition, patients showed subjective improvement in hair loss.”
4. Help Boost Your Energy

A healthy, whole-food diet and proper sleep is the best recipe for boundless energy, but if you’re looking for a quick energy boost, such as before or after a workout, honey can suffice. This is particularly true for athletes looking for a “time-released fuel” to provide energy over a longer duration.10

5. Reduce Allergy Symptoms

Locally produced honey, which will contain pollen spores picked up by the bees from local plants, introduces a small amount of allergen into your system. Theoretically, this can activate your immune system and over time can build up your natural immunity against it.

The typical recommendation is to take about a teaspoon-full of locally produced honey per day, starting a few months PRIOR to the pollen season, to allow your system to build up immunity. And the key here is local.

This approach only works because it has pollen of local plants you may be allergic to. Honey from other parts of the country simply won’t work. While research on this has yielded conflicting results, one study found that, during birch pollen season, compared to the control group, the patients using birch pollen honey experienced:11

60 percent reduction in symptoms
Twice as many asymptomatic days
70 percent fewer days with severe symptoms
50 percent decrease in usage of antihistamines
Interestingly enough, there were few differences between the two honey groups (those who took regular honey, versus those who took honey that contained birch pollen.) However, the birch pollen honey group used less histamines than those who used regular honey. The authors concluded:

“Patients who pre-seasonally used birch pollen honey had significantly better control of their symptoms than did those on conventional medication only, and they had marginally better control compared to those on regular honey. The results should be regarded as preliminary, but they indicate that birch pollen honey could serve as a complementary therapy for birch pollen allergy.”
Honey for Herpes
Good-quality honey offers several topical wound-care benefits that can explain some of its success as a remedy for herpes sores:

It draws fluid away from your wound
The high sugar content suppresses microorganism growth
Worker bees secrete an enzyme (glucose oxidase) into the nectar, which then releases low levels of hydrogen peroxide when the honey makes contact with your wound
In one study, 16 adult subjects with a history of recurrent labial and genital herpes attacks used honey to treat one attack, and a commonly prescribed antiviral drug, Acyclovir cream, during another. (It’s important to realize that neither the drug nor the honey will actually cure genital herpes. They only treat the symptoms.)

Interestingly, honey provided significantly better treatment results. For labial herpes, the mean healing time was 43 percent better, and for genital herpes, 59 percent better than acyclovir. Pain and crusting was also significantly reduced with the honey, compared to the drug. Two cases of labial herpes and one case of genital herpes remitted completely with the honey treatment, whereas none remitted while using acyclovir.12

3 DIY Honey Home Remedies
Honey is a humectant, which means it attracts and retains moisture, making it an ideal addition to moisturizers, shampoos, and conditioners. Along with its antimicrobial properties, honey makes a wonderful addition to homemade personal care products. The National Honey Board has a few you can try out for yourself:13

1. Honey Hair Conditioner: Mix ½ cup honey with ¼ cup olive oil. Work a small amount through your hair until coated. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let sit for 30 minutes. Shampoo as normal and rinse.

2. Honey Body Moisturizer: Mix 5 tablespoons honey, 2 tablespoons rose oil, and 2 cups almond oil in a medium-sized bottle. Apply as needed onto wet skin.

3. Honey Almond Scrub: Mix 3 teaspoons honey, 1 teaspoon olive oil, and 6 ½ tablespoons of finely crushed almonds. Rub the exfoliating scrub onto your face gently and rinse with warm water.
The Organic Consumers Association has also published this simple honey lemon cough syrup that’s useful to keep on hand during the winter months:14

Honey Lemon Cough Syrup

Lemon helps promote health by quickly alkalinizing your body, and honey will kill most bacteria while soothing your throat. This is a perfect choice for a quick cough remedy.

Put a pint of raw honey in a pan on the stove on VERY low heat (Do not boil honey as this changes its medicinal properties).
Take a whole lemon and boil in some water in a separate pan for 2-3 minutes to both soften the lemon and kill any bacteria that may be on the lemon skin.
Let the lemon cool enough to handle then cut it in slices and add it to the pint of honey on the stove.
Let mixture cook on warm heat for about an hour.
Then strain the lemon from the honey making sure all lemon seeds are removed.
Let cool, then bottle in a jar with a lid and store in the refrigerator.
This syrup will keep for 2 months in the refrigerator. To soothe a cough, take 1/2 teaspoon for a 25 lb. child and 1 teaspoon for a 50 lb. child, about 4 times a day, or as often as needed. Adults can take 1-tablespoon doses.
Is Honey a Healthy Natural Sweetener? How to Avoid Fake Honey
As far as natural sweeteners go, honey does have a place. The main thing to remember when it comes to honey is that not all honey is created equal. The antibacterial activity in some honeys is 100 times more potent than in others, while processed refined honey will lack many of these beneficial properties altogether. Your average domestic “Grade A” type honey found in the grocery store is likely highly processed.

It’s also been found that more than 75 percent of the honey on American supermarket shelves may be ultra-processed—to the point that all inherent medicinal properties are completely gone—and then smuggled into the country by the barrel drum. Nearly all of this “fake” honey is made in China. Some of these brokers will even create bogus country of origin papers. All 60 jars of “honey” tested by Food Safety News (FSN) came back negative for pollen, which is a clear sign of ultra-processing.15 According to FSN:

“The removal of these microscopic particles from deep within a flower would make the nectar flunk the quality standards set by most of the world’s food safety agencies. The food safety divisions of the World Health Organization, the European Commission and dozens of others have also ruled that without pollen, there is no way to determine whether the honey came from legitimate and safe sources.”
In their investigation, FSN discovered the following:

76 percent of honey samples bought at grocery stores (such as TOP Food, Safeway, QFC, Kroger, Harris Teeter, etc.) were absent of pollen
77 percent of the honey from big box stores (like Costco, Sam’s Club, Walmart, and Target) were absent of pollen
100 percent of the honey sampled from drug stores (like Walgreens, Rite-Aid, and CVS Pharmacy) were absent of pollen
The good news is all of the samples from farmers markets, co-ops, and natural stores like Trader Joe’s had the full, proper compliment of pollen, as did organic brands from common grocery stores. When choosing honey, be sure it is raw, unfiltered, and 100% pure, from a trusted source.

Honey Should Be Consumed Only in Moderation
Honey has many healthy attributes, but it is also high in fructose, averaging around 53 percent. Each teaspoon of honey has nearly four grams of fructose, which means it can exacerbate pre-existing insulin resistance and wreak havoc on your body if consumed in excess. So when consuming honey, carefully add the total grams of fructose (including fruits) that you consume each day, and stay below 25 grams of total fructose per day.

Keep in mind, though, that if you have insulin resistance (i.e. if you are taking drugs for high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, or if you’re overweight) you’d be better off avoiding all sweeteners, including honey, since any sweetener can decrease your insulin sensitivity and worsen your insulin resistance. If you’re healthy, however, eating raw honey in moderation could provide many of the benefits listed above.

NYC Restaurants Using Radiation Detectors On Fish From Pacific

Chefs Say So Far So Good, But Will Remain Vigilant

glowing-fishNEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Could powerful radiation from those reactors in Japan be tainting the fish you’re eating here at home? While the government says no, some restaurant owners aren’t taking any chances.
At Le Bernardin in Manhattan fish is a way of life.

“Well our fish is the freshest, of course, and it comes from the best,” owner Eric Ripert told CBS 2’s Kristin Thorne.

But celebrity owner Ripert said he’s making sure of it. He’s testing every single piece of fish that comes through his door for radiation.
“Some of our clients started asking us some questions and they were concerned,” Ripert said.

The concern is over radiation in the Pacific Ocean. A leak in one of the nuclear reactors in tsunami-ravaged Japan has spewed tons of radioactive material into the ocean. The Food & Drug Administration is testing all fish that comes into the United States and so far they say they haven’t found any contamination. Neither has Ripert.

“For a week now we are using it on all products that come to the restaurant and so far it’s absolutely zero radiation,” Ripert said.

So the radiation tester is really very easy to use. They take it and they run it along the surface of the fish.

There’s no radiation tester at the Lobster Place in Chelsea Market, but manager Davis Herron said he’s sure his fish is radiation-free. “We deal will suppliers that we trust and we know,” Herron said.

David Wallis of the West Village said he isn’t worried. Thorne caught up with him just as he was about to dig into his Chesapeake soft shell crab roll. “We’re good. I don’t think it’s gotten to the Chesapeake yet,” Wallis said.

Debbie Cersosimo of West Hartford, Conn., said she’s just going to avoid fish for a while. “You get enough radiation in everything else. You go through exams and stuff like that. No thanks,” she said.

While there’s no immediate concern for our food supply, all eyes are on Japan as the situation continues to unfold.

Chefs Thorne spoke to said if you’re concerned about your fish, you should ask a restaurant or grocery store staff where the fish came from.

California has eight monitoring stations for radiation in addition to the Environmental Protection Agency’s air-monitoring sites. The public will be updated about radiation levels, officials said.
My question is, as it should be for everyone. Is it “SAFE” to Eat the Fish from the “PACIFIC OCEAN”?

On a national level, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is collecting information on all food products regulated by the agency that are exported to the U.S. from Japan, the FDA said. This is being done so that the agency can evaluate whether these products will pose a risk to consumers in the future. Get ready now…–> Survival Equipment for the Family

The FDA is not concerned about the safety of food products from Japan that have already been distributed, the agency said. The FDA already screens imports and is monitoring for any trace of increased radiation in imported products.

New Study Shows Ginger Is 10,000x Stronger Than Chemo (And Only Kills Cancer Cells)

New Study Shows Ginger Is 10,000x Stronger Than Chemo

(And Only Kills Cancer Cells)

turmeric-health-benefits
turmeric-health-benefits

Turmeric has widely been toted for its effect on cancer, but new research has shown that its cousin ginger is just as powerful. Not only that, an active compound in ginger has potentially been found to be more effective than some cancer medications at killing cancer. There is even preliminary evidence of some cancer medications being ineffective and actually accelerating the death of cancer patients.

ginger

The Power Of Ginger
One study, conducted by Georgia State University found that whole ginger extract was able to reduce the size of a prostate tumor by 56% in mice. In addition to its effect on cancer, ginger was also observed to reduce inflammation and supply the mice with life-enhancing antioxidants.

Another study published in PLoS found that one particular component in ginger known as 6-shogaol is superior to conventional cancer medication, namely chemotherapy, at targeting the root cause of breast cancer malignancy: breast cancer stem cells.

Sometimes referred to as ‘mother cells’, cancer stem cells are the cause of a wide range of cancers, not simply breast cancer. These ‘mother cells’ are responsible for creating the different ‘daughter’ cell types that makeup the tumor colony. While cancer stem cells only constitute .2 to 1% of the cell makeup of the tumor, they seem to be almost ‘immortal’.

What that means is, these cancer stem cells are able to self renew, they are capable of continuous differentiation, are resistant to conventional chemotherapeutic agents, and are capable of splitting off and forming new tumor colonies. The only way to fully ensure that your body is cancer free is to destroy the cancer stem cells within a tumor.

This new study found that the pungent constituent in ginger known as 6-shogaol was very active when it came to anti-cancer stem behavior. This constituent is produced when the root is either dried or cooked, to very common uses for ginger already. But there is something very specific about 6-shogaol that makes it superior to chemotherapy treatments for cancer.

Researchers found that these cancer-destroying effects occurred at concentrations that were non-toxic to non-cancer cells. That means that this particular component of ginger only killed cancer cells, leaving healthy cells alone. This makes it very different from conventional cancer treatments that do not display that kind of selective cytotoxicity.

When it comes to breast cancer, 6-shogaol significantly affects the cell cycle, resulting in increased cancer cell death. It induces programmed cell death through the induction of autophagy. It also inhibits breast cancer spheroids (lumps) from forming. But that isn’t the only astounding thing about 6-shogaol.

This study also found, that in tests of the cancer drug taxol, it did not show the same level of effectiveness at destroying cancer stem cells and tumors as 6-shogaol. Even when the concentrations of taxol were increased, it was still found that 6-shogaol was 10,000 times more effective at killing cancer stem cells, stopping tumors from forming, and keeping healthy cells alive.

More research needs to be done to show how ‘modern cancer medicine’ is not as effective as natural remedies. We can not be making our bodies sick while trying to cure a disease, that is simply not enough anymore.

Fukushima reaches US shores. #4

An energy map provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) shows the intensity of the tsunami in the Pacific Ocean caused by the magnitude 8.9 earthquake which struck Japan on March 11, 2011.
An energy map provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) shows the intensity of the tsunami in the Pacific Ocean caused by the magnitude 8.9 earthquake which struck Japan on March 11, 2011.

On 5 July 2012, the Japanese National Diet-appointed Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Investigation Commission (NAIIC) submitted its inquiry report to the Japanese Diet.[40] The Commission found the nuclear disaster was “manmade”, that the direct causes of the accident were all foreseeable prior to 11 March 2011. The report also found that the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant was incapable of withstanding the earthquake and tsunami. TEPCO, the regulatory bodies (NISA and NSC) and the government body promoting the nuclear power industry (METI), all failed to correctly develop the most basic safety requirements—such as assessing the probability of damage, preparing for containing collateral damage from such a disaster, and developing evacuation plans for the public in the case of a serious radiation release. Meanwhile, the government-appointed Investigation Committee on the Accident at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Stations of Tokyo Electric Power Company submitted its final report to the Japanese government on 23 July 2012.[41] A separate study by Stanford researchers found that Japanese plants operated by the largest utility companies were particularly unprotected against potential tsunami.[6]

TEPCO admitted for the first time on 12 October 2012 that it had failed to take stronger measures to prevent disasters for fear of inviting lawsuits or protests against its nuclear plants.[7][8][9][10] There are no clear plans for decommissioning the plant, but the plant management estimate is thirty or forty years.[17] A frozen soil barrier is being constructed in order to prevent ongoing exposure of running groundwater with melted down nuclear fuel.[18]

glowing-fish

In 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) indicated that the residents of the area who were evacuated were exposed to low amounts of radiation and that radiation-induced health impacts are likely to be low.[31][32] In particular, the 2013 WHO report predicts that for evacuated infant girls, their 0.75% pre-accident lifetime risk of developing thyroid cancer is calculated to be increased to 1.25% by being exposed to radioiodine, with the increase being slightly less for males.

The risks from a number of additional radiation-induced cancers are also expected to be elevated due to exposure caused by the other low boiling point fission products that were released by the safety failures. The single greatest increase is for thyroid cancer, but in total, an overall 1% higher lifetime risk of developing cancers of all types, is predicted for infant females, with the risk slightly lower for males, making both some of the most radiation-sensitive groups.[32] Along with those within the womb, which the WHO predicted, depending on their gender, to have the same elevations in risk as the infant groups.[33]

A screening program a year later in 2012 found that more than a third (36%) of children in Fukushima Prefecture have abnormal growths in their thyroid glands.[34] As of August 2013, there have been more than 40 children newly diagnosed with thyroid cancer and other cancers in Fukushima prefecture as a whole.

In 2015, the number of thyroid cancers or detections of developing thyroid cancers numbered 137.[35] However whether these incidences of cancer are elevated above the rate in un-contaminated areas and therefore were due to exposure to nuclear radiation is unknown at this stage.

caution-radiation

Data from the Chernobyl accident showed that an unmistakable rise in thyroid cancer rates following the disaster in 1986 only began after a cancer incubation period of 3–5 years,[36] however whether this data can be directly compared to the Fukushima nuclear disaster is still yet to be determined.[37]

A survey by the newspaper Mainichi Shimbun computed that of some 300,000 people who evacuated the area, approximately 1,600 deaths related to the evacuation conditions, such as living in temporary housing and hospital closures have occurred as of August 2013, a number comparable to the 1,599 deaths directly caused by the earthquake and tsunami in the Fukushima Prefecture in 2011. With the exact cause of the majority of these evacuation related deaths not being specified, as according to the municipalities, that would hinder application for condolence money compensation[38][39] by the relatives of the deceased.

ARE YOU LEAVING ON A JET PLANE AND LEAVING YOUR PETS BEHIND THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Who will be taking care of your 4 legged family members during the holidays?

This is a tough one unless you have a good friend or you already have a sitter. I always say “Plan this one out good”. If your dogs are comfortable with their sitter, you will be at ease. It is very stressful for all involved, especially your pets. They don’t understand what is going on, unless you travel often.

Before you leave

christmas-dog-hat
A WOOF from me please…

Show the sitter where the pet food and treats are, and where the pets sleep.

Make sure you write a list of basic commands you use with your pet? Giving the sitter the right words to use is important for communication with your pets.

Give them a list with pet rules: Are they allowed on the furniture? When do pets get treats, and when should they be reprimanded?

Let the sitter know your pets habits. Like, do they hang inside the house or out or both. Or if your dog barks often, or whether barking is for “stranger danger” and what to do if the dog continues to bark.

Let your sitter know if any of your pets are aggressive and for what reason. (toys, food, treats or the mail delivery person)

Lay out on the counter any cleaning supplies they made need in case a pet has an accident in the house. You never know.

List: what time your pets need to be walked or are they “free rangers” out in the yard. Most important do you need to close the doggie door and limit their access if this is so.

List: Feeding times and how much food to give them.

If there is more than one pet to be fed, can they all eat together in a group or do they need to be separated. Most important do you need to do separation prior to mixing their food?

Make sure to leave emergency contact information for the pets. What is the name and number of the veterinarian? Is there an emergency animal clinic nearby? What should they do in case of an emergency.. Also leave a number of close friend or relative in the area.

Just make sure that your pet adores who ever may watch and care for your pets this Holiday Season.

Karma (Sanskrit: कर्म; IPA: [ˈkərmə] ( listen); Pali: kamma) means action, work or deed;[1] it also refers to the spiritual principle of cause and effect where intent and actions of an individual (cause) influence the future of that individual (effect).[2] Good intent and good deed contribute to good karma and future happiness, while bad intent and bad deed contribute to bad karma and future suffering.[3][4] Karma is closely associated with the idea of rebirth in many schools of Asian religions.[5] In these schools, karma in the present affects one’s future in the current life, as well as the nature and quality of future lives – one’s saṃsāra.[6]

WHAT DOES “A CUP OF JOE” MEAN TO YOU?

WHAT DOES “A CUP OF JOE” MEAN TO YOU?

Are You A Consumer Or Connoisseur of Great Health Benefits?

What is the best cup of coffee you have ever had?

by: http://www.orgnatlife.com

Well that could be a long list or a very short one. The bigger BOXED coffee shops as Star$$$$’s really does not appeal to me. Boring, run of the mill. It’s the smaller shops that actually make a good cup of coffee, or maybe it’s the atmosphere that makes it taste so good. Either way the atmosphere is comfy and inviting. Big oversized chairs to relax in and read a book or chat with others while you sip that wonderful drink.. Sounds like home.

Speaking of terminology.. Lord give me a break. If one more establishment comes up with another tongue twisting drink that takes 5 minutes to order and another 20 minutes to make, I will have to stop altogether. What ever happen to the good Old days when a cup of Joe was just that a cup of joe?

Well we are about to find out… When espresso came to America and where did espresso come from originally? Italy you say…  NO.

Espresso first appeared in Italy in the early 20th century. Coffee had already become a necessity to Italian daily life thanks to North African Muslims who brought it through Venice’s ports during the Renaissance. We owe much of the mystique coffee to Venetian merchants who charged wealthy patrons hefty sums to try out this newfangled drink when the first coffeehouses opened in the 1640’s.

Fast forward about 200 years and we find business man Luigi Bezzera tinkering away with this coffee pot to find a way to make coffee faster. In 1903, Bezzera owned a manufacturing business and was frustrated by the time-consuming process of brewing his own coffee at home each morning.

He soon found that adding steam pressure to the machine not only cut down on the brewing process but also produced a stronger, more robust cup of coffee. This new quick-brew process drew out the coffee bean’s best qualities but somehow avoided over extraction.

Bezzera immediately named his invention the “Fast Coffee Machine”. Since the word ‘espresso’ means fast in Italian, the name of the beverage the machine produced was quickly shortened to what we know today.

Unfortunately, Bezzera wasn’t as talented at marketing and sales as he was at engineering. In 1905, another businessman named Desidero Pavoni purchased the machine’s rights from Bezzera and had it patented.

Nowadays you don’t have to travel to Italy to experience Bezzera’s handiwork. The recent boom in espresso’s popularity has brought this Italian treat to every mall and street corner. Next time you decide to pick one up, take a moment to think about the more than 100 years of history inside your cup.

BREWING…

There are several ways to brew the black magic. Easy, put the water in and walk away to grinding, tampering, brewing and mixing the syrups to get that special taste.

For myself I threw out the Drip coffee maker and opted for the french press carafe. To have a rich full bodied aroma wafting through the house is like a beautiful melody running through your mind over and over.

I still say the best was the Percolator, back in the day. I can remember my grandma making coffee on the stove. Watching the coffee going up into the glass bubble on top and back down again, becoming darker in color each time it reached the bubble. Then the electric percolator my mom used was the highlight of the 60’s. Same technique just plug it in and watch it go.. No more standing by the stove and waiting for that perfect cup of coffee.

The Automatic drip machine came into the light. Wow everyone thought this was the BOMB.. Yes it gave you your pot of coffee in 5 minutes. But where was that rich wafting aroma? Gone with the 5 minute cup.

Then we step up to the home brew station for espresso. Ohh, what magic we have in our possession. Soon every house had an espresso machine big and small.

The latest is the One Cup Brew machine. Bringing you pre-made espresso in 50 flavors with no hassle or mess. Every day is a coffee rainbow.

Have fun and try a different blend and technique today…. You might be surprised at the difference a “Technique” actually makes.

Don’t forget about the health benefits of coffee. Black Coffee, not that candy coated crud or Super Hype added extract.

Please!!! Regular black coffee is just fine for me.

You’re helping her? “I’m going to kill you”

Good Samaritan shot while aiding a dying woman.

The Washington Post   By Cleve R. Wootson Jr.

Daniel Wesley pulled on a pair of gloves and searched for the woman’s bullet wounds, looking for the best place to apply pressure.

The 17-year-old didn’t have his EMT certification yet, but in the critical moments after authorities say April Peck was shot by her boyfriend on Sunday, Wesley was all she had.

Before the teen could do more, Peck’s boyfriend came roaring back in a Chevy Malibu.

“If you help her, I’m going to kill you,” he said, according to Wesley’s mother, who spoke to the Advocate, a newspaper based in Baton Rouge.

The boyfriend, Terrell Walker, rammed the car into Wesley, according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. The car pushed him into the side of an arriving ambulance, shattering his arm and snapping his femur, according to a GoFundMe page set up by his family.

Injured, Wesley crawled to the median. Investigators say Walker pointed his gun and shot the teen twice.

Walker also fired at the ambulance’s crew, but didn’t hit them, before getting in the car and peeling off.

good-smaritan Video still of Daniel Wesley, who was shot trying to help a woman.

First responder’s ultimately sorted out the injured. Peck, a 30-year-old mother of two, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died. Watch the video

Wesley, a senior at Central High School, was taken there, too, and went through two surgeries in three days.

[A good Samaritan helped a woman who was being beaten in a parking lot. Now he’s dead.]

The paramedics weren’t injured. Mike Chustz, a spokesman for East Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Services, said they were barely out of their ambulance when the Malibu crushed Wesley into it. They had been flagged down by a motorist about an injured woman in the street and initially thought they were on their way to help an injured pedestrian.

“It was totally unexpected,” Chustz told The Washington Post. “They all did whatever they could to seek shelter to try to put some distance between them.”

Walker was gone when deputies arrived, but investigators initiated a manhunt.

They saw him walking on Blue Bonnet Boulevard near Interstate 10 and approached.

According to CBS affiliate WAFB, the deputies ordered Walker to put his hands up. He pulled out a handgun instead.

They “exchanged gunfire striking the suspect who was later pronounced dead,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Louisiana State Police are investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Walker, a felon who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 1992 and to possession of a firearm by a felon 14 years later, had a tumultuous relationship with Peck, according to the Advocate. Walker was frequently jealous and often violent, family members told the newspaper. But the couple’s separations never lasted.

[A ‘Good Samaritan’ saw a deputy being attacked by a Florida man so he fatally shot the assailant]

Peck had gotten a restraining order against him two weeks ago, the newspaper reported, but they continued to see each other. He used her Chevy Malibu to commute to his job and had picked her up from work a half-hour before shooting her and hurling her into the street.

Wesley found her there a little later. He was headed home after leaving the Mall of Louisiana.

Chef Sherrie Angel’s Pumpkin Dinner Rolls

Chef Sherrie Angel’s Pumpkin Dinner Rolls

Pumpkin Rolls for Thanksgiving and Christmas… Yummy

Chef Sherrie Angel “Slam Dunks” Thanksgiving this year with her Pumpkin Dinner Rolls. Creamy smooth texture that melts in your mouth. Bite after bite you can taste every spice layered across your pallet correctly.

Let’s not forget about the star of the day. Juicy seasoned to perfection turkey with chicken sausage gravy & all the sides to complete the meal.

I made my dough in the bread maker, but i have added instructions for making it by hand.

Risen twice and then baked to perfection. But we will give the directions for old school mixing in a bowl.

Chef Sherrie Angel… Rocks the Kitchen with Pumpkin Rolls

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup warm Whole Milk
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1/4 cup salted Butter
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 can (15 oz) Canned Pumpkin
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 5 cups Flour

DIRECTIONS

Place milk , 1 teaspoon honey and whisk together. Sprinkle yeast on top, set to the side for 5 minutes.

In a large bowl combine and mix together the remaining ingredients. Add the milk mixture and start mixing. Dough will be wet. If the dough is extremely wet you can add some flour, but the dough should remain sticky. Don’t add to much flour at once, a little at a time until you can handle to dough.

After you have the dough mixed together remove from the bowl to a floured surface so you can knead the dough. Knead for 15 minutes.

Lightly butter a bowl and place the dough inside and cover with Saran Wrap. Allow the dough to rise. It should be doubled in size. About 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Remove dough from bowl. You can use a pastry mat / board, greased surface or parchment paper to use for your work area.

Divide the dough into 4 pieces so it’s easier to handle. Cut the dough into 24 pieces. Grease or butter your hands and roll the dough inward into balls. Place the pieces into a greased pan or pans. Depending on what you have handy.

Cover pans with a kitchen towel and allow the rolls to rise to double or triple the size. About 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

About 30 minutes before the rolls are finished rising turn the oven on to 375 degrees F.

Bake the rolls for 25 – 30 minutes or until golden.

Remove from the oven. Brush the tops of rolls with butter. Let the rolls cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Remove rolls and place on wire rack. These rolls can be served warm or at room temperature.

If needed you can make these a day ahead, so you can concentrate on all the other dinner items.
