A SHOUT OUT FOR KITTY KAT… “Meow’s Mix”

I only have dogs so I would love some feed back on the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 4-oz can of tuna in water
  •  1/4 cup tuna water
  •  1 egg
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  •  1/2 cup whole wheat or spelt flour

Instructions:

Pre-Heat Oven to 350’F

  • Lightly grease pan
  • Shred tuna fine, add egg and mix well. Add tuna water and mix well. Add cornmeal and mix till. If balls are not forming, add a small amount of water to get the balls to stick together if not sticking.
  • Spoon out ½ Teaspoon roll into a ball, Place pieces on greased baking sheet smash with fork to 1/4-inch thick
  • Bake at 350’F oven for 15-20 minutes or until light brown
  • Cool to room temperature, place in an air-tight container, and store in the refrigerator or the freezer. They will keep well in the fridge for up to 1 week and in the freezer for up to 3 months. Serve at room temperature.

The Struggle For These Animals Are “REAL”

As you all know by now, on the Big Island of Hawaii on May 3, 2018 we had an volcano eruption. Leilani Estates was the first Subdivision to be affected. Many animals at that time were left behind. Some had no choice but to leave their pets.

This community has come together with many volunteers. They have activated their own search and rescue efforts. The Rescue Agency pay for all the gas, food and any other expenses. Now with donations starting to come in has made a big improvement for the rescue animals. People have taken animals into their homes for temporary housing. Everyone is pitching in where they can. The Rescue Agency’s are full. Some have erected temporary structures to house the animals.

June 5, 2018 UPDATE: There have been 4 of new areas added for the animals to be rescued.

All Of Hawaii’s Animal Rescue Agency’s are still rescuing the Animals Left Behind in this Crisis.

Hawaii Lava Flow Animal Rescue

The Hawaiʻi Lava Flow Animal Rescue Network (HLFARN) was created to serve as an informational hub for those needing assistance with pets and animals on farms during the 2018 eruption of Kilauea on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. But it has become so much more than that. HLFARN has blossomed from a group of strangers into an Ohana; a family of people whose love for animals has taken them into the path of an erupting volcano to rescue pets and farm animals that have been left behind.

Proper care of your pets 101 for vacation time.

Are you leaving for a weekend getaway?

Who will be taking care of your 4 legged family members?

This is a tough one unless you have a good friend or you already have a sitter. I always say “Plan this one out good”.   If your dogs are comfortable with their sitter, you will be at ease. It is very stressful for all involved, especially our pets. They don’t understand what is going on, unless you travel often.

Before you leave

Show the sitter where the pet food and treats are, and where the pets sleep.

Make sure you write a list of basic commands you use with your pet? Giving the sitter the right words to use is important for communication with your pets.

Give them a list with pet rules: Are they allowed on the furniture? When do pets get treats, and when should they be reprimanded?

Let the sitter know your pets habits. Like, do they hang inside the house or out or both. Or if your dog barks often, or whether barking is for “stranger danger” and what to do if the dog continues to bark.

Let your sitter know if any of your pets are aggressive and for what reason. (toys, food, treats or the mail delivery person)

Lay out on the counter any cleaning supplies they made need in case a pet has an accident in the house. You never know.

List: what time your pets need to be walked or are they “free rangers” out in the yard. Most important do you need to close the doggie door and limit their access if this is so.

List: Feeding times and how much food to give them.

If there is more than one pet to be fed, can they all eat together in a group or do they need to be separated. Most important do you need to do separation prior to mixing their food?

Make sure to leave emergency contact information for the pets.

  • What is the name and number of the veterinarian?
  • Is there an emergency animal clinic nearby?
  • What should they do in case of an emergency.
  • Also leave a number of close friend or relative in the area.

Just make sure that your pet adores who ever may watch and care for your pets.

Ear Mite Treatment: Natural Remedies for Ear Mites

How to Treat Ear Mites In 10 Easy Steps

Ear mites pose an itchy aggravation for puppies and their people. This parasite also can travel outside of the pup’s body, making it very contagious to other pets in the home. If one pet has ear mites, all of the other dogs, cats, rabbits and ferret friends also need treatment. Your veterinarian can provide this service after diagnosing the mite, but that can get pricey. It’s also helpful for you to learn how to medicate your puppy.

Here’s how to cut the cost and treat puppy ear mites at home.

Ear Mite Medications

The ears are treated by flushing away the debris and mites using an insecticide similar to that used in flea treatments. The medication is often suspended in a bland medium, like mineral oil, which when squirted into the ear helps suffocate the bugs not killed outright by the insecticide.

The solution also floats debris out of the ear canal as the ear base is gently massaged. A number of commercial products are available for treating ear mites; ask your veterinarian for a recommendation.

Home Made Medications

Holistic veterinarians agree that commercial products work well. But puppies sick with ear mites may have other common health challenges that need treatment. It may be less stressful to shoo away the bugs with more natural treatments. Cleaning the ears with soothing solutions is the first step.

  • Antiseptic Tea Rinse. Green tea is a natural antiseptic. It can be used to flush out all the ear might debris—that crumbly brown/black stuff that clogs the puppy’s ear canal. Steep a tablespoon of green tea leaves in a cup of hot water for three or four minutes, and then strain it. Let it cool to room temperature before using once a day for a month.
  • Oil Treatment. Oil helps sooth sore ears, and also can float debris out. Oil also can suffocate the mites. Holistic vets say it doesn’t really matter what kind of oil you use, although some recommend almond or olive oil. Avoid tea tree oil, though, because it can be toxic for cats and smaller pets like young puppies. For the best benefit, crush a couple garlic cloves in a cup of the oil and let it marinate overnight. Garlic naturally kills bacteria that might develop secondary to the mite infection. Remember to remove the garlic before using the oil to treat your puppy’s ears though. You’ll need to treat the ears with the oil/garlic solution daily for at least a month.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar. Add 1 teaspoon to a 8 ounces, put in spray bottle and spray twice a day for 10 days.

Thoroughly treat floor and bedding in and around pets’ sleeping quarters. Treat surrounding cracks and crevices, baseboards, carpeting and wherever fleas and other crawling insects are suspected.

The Following is Recommended Food daily doses for Dogs and Cats. The diatomaceous earth seems to create an environment in the digestive system that parasites cannot live in. Also reported are great results with sore and painful hips and joints, and even a fuller, healthier shiny coat when fed as a regular daily supplement.

Other suggestions for food grade diatomaceous earth for pets:
Cat Litter/Kitty Litter: Liberally add Diatomaceous Earth to litter box to effectively control dampness and odors.

Animal Suggested Rate
Large Cats 1 teaspoon
Kittens 1/4 teaspoon
Dogs 100 lbs + 1-2 tablespoons
Dogs 50-100 lbs 1 tablespoon
Mini dogs 1/2 teaspoon

In clinical observations of feeding dogs over 35 lbs. 1 tablespoon/day, and dogs under 35 lbs. 1 teaspoon/day, of diatomaceous earth, within seven days all ova disappeared from stools. Diatomaceous Earth controlled Ascarids (Toxocana), Hookworms (Anclyostoma caninum), and Whipworms (Trichuris vulipis).
